VCA Animal Hospitals Veterinary Assistant in Buffalo, New York

We are located in Buffalo, NY and have proudly serviced the Greater Buffalo area with our general practice and specialty services for over 70 years. Our team is dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive care to all of our patients and clients alike. Job Summary: In this position you will be supporting our Doctors and Technician team by creating a positive, low-stress atmosphere for our clients and patients. They are trained in surgery procedures, assist during exams, and are involved in client service and education. Assistants are involved in everything that helps to keep our hospital running smoothly and efficiently. This positions pay range is $15 .75 - $16.75 pending on experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous experience or training/education working in a veterinary facility preferred.

  • Must be friendly, outgoing, “people oriented.”

  • Excellent communications skills.

  • Must be capable of being cross-trained for front office receptionist duties, telephone and computer skills are necessary.

Physical Requirements :

  • Dependable attendance is required.

  • Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions.

  • This position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds, walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day.

Care:

  • Compassionate nursing care is the top priority for all patients.

  • Build rapport with clients and pets to ensure they feel welcome and comfortable.

  • Make certain all patients are kept clean and comfortable.

  • Assist in treating hospitalized animals under veterinary supervision.

  • Continuously monitor all patients admitted to the hospital.

  • Flexibility in working hours is required to ensure that the job is done properly.

Housekeeping, Maintenance and other Duties:

  • Make certain entire hospital both inside and outside, including treatment, surgery, kennels, runs, parking lot and entry is kept clean throughout the day (so that a client could come back and see their pet without any notice). This includes your own clothing and appearance.

  • Maintaining proper medical records. Including but not limited to; client records with charges, medical history, vaccine status, medications administered, laboratory reports, etc.

  • Assist in exam rooms with veterinarian.

  • Assist in Surgery and Radiology

  • Client education, prepping appointment for the veterinarian.

  • General duties in pharmacy and lab.
