Job Title - Chief Information Officer (CIO) (Grades 9 - 12)

Reports to - Head of School

Status - Full Time

Position Summary: The role of the CIO is to manage all areas of instructional data for Health Sciences Charter School. The CIO is to ensure that our data used for state reporting purposes, is accurate, complete, and secure. The CIO must know the sources and locations of all district data and how it is extracted and formatted for use in the New York State Student Information Repository System (SIRS).

The CIO is also responsible for the management and maintenance of the student management system and other systems used by the school for grade reporting, attendance, demographics, discipline, parent communication, emergency notifications, student assessment, and other systems as needed. They are also responsible for maintaining records retention and ensuring the school is in compliance with the Records Retention Policy and any New York State Records Retention policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain authorization for school and district personnel to view student records in, and obtain reports from, the SIRS.

  • Provide status reports regarding the district's compliance to the Head of School and respond to requests for data for analysis purposes.

  • Monitor compliance with regard to data standards and maintenance of records.

  • Ensure data extracts from source systems confirm to the Data Warehouse file format and include all required fields as specified in the templates.

  • Maintain working knowledge of Internal Systems used for Data Collection and Reporting.

  • Export, Maintain, and Analyze Data in the SIRS and the 4 levels of the data warehouse/NYS reporting structure.

  • Completes Level 0 validation process and authorizes transfer of data to Level 1 repository.

  • Runs verification reports at Levels 1/2 to verify data and ensure accuracy.

  • Coordinates and leads collection of data and maintains the district's source of each data element that is collected and reported in SIRS.

  • Secure the certification of the data by the charter school leader in accordance with the certification schedule set forth by NYSED

  • Maintain knowledge of all internal systems and how they are mapped to state reporting systems for accountability/NYS report card, state/federal reporting.

  • Use the NYS Student Identification System that follows students to be tracked when there are transfers within New York State schools.

  • Attends informational sessions, meetings, and training sessions as necessary.

  • Train users in use and administration of the student management system.

  • Maintain Data for system used for emergency notifications.

  • Assist building personnel in reporting BEDs data in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Other Duties as assigned

Education, Experience, and Work Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years related experience in industrial setting.

  • Experience in the export/import of data from and to various systems used by HSCS and New York State for reporting and analysis purposes.

  • Knowledge of database, spreadsheet, and word processing software (Microsoft Office, Google Docs/Sheets)

  • Knowledge of data warehouse levels and uses for each level.

  • Experience using all aspects of a student management system.

  • Experience with Powerschool preferred

  • Ability to do training in all systems used by Health Sciences Charter School

  • Ability to meet state and district wide deadlines.

Salary: $50,000/year or more depending on experience
