Brief Job Description

There are two open positions for this posting.

As an Admissions Advisor focusing on the Metro New York region for Buffalo State University, you’ll be instrumental in implementing our new student recruitment plan. You’ll represent Buffalo State at college fairs, high school visits, community agencies, and community colleges across New York state with an emphasis on New York City (New York, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Richmond counties), fostering relationships with prospective students, parents, school counselors, and community-based organizations. Your role will involve advising students and parents on the application process, conducting group information sessions, and participating in various recruitment events both on and off-campus. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for organizing and running at least one overnight bus trip or similar recruitment event, along with managing partnerships with college access programs.

  • Implement the new student recruitment plan for the Metro New York region, including overnight travel throughout the area.

  • Represent Buffalo State at college fairs, high schools, community agencies, and community colleges to engage with prospective students and counselors.

  • Advise students and parents on the application process and assist with follow-up strategy.

  • Participate in new student events such as open houses, monthly on-call responsibilities, virtual one-on-one sessions, and Saturday visit days.

  • Coordinate at least one overnight bus trip or similar recruitment event to attract prospective students to Buffalo State University.

  • Conduct group information sessions, including some Saturdays, to provide information about Buffalo State University.

  • Recruit in an assigned territory and participate in local and on-campus activities and events.

  • Develop relationships with school counselors at feeder high schools to support student recruitment efforts.

  • Review applicants’ high school and college credentials to determine eligibility for admission.

  • Triage email inquiries, text messages, and phone calls from prospective students.

  • Represent Buffalo State professionally at recruiting events, conferences, high school visits, and college fairs.

    Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree

· Demonstrated experience in college admissions or related area within higher education

· Ability to travel overnight and work evenings and weekends up to 10 weeks of recruitment-related travel per semester

· Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

· Strong organizational skills

· Use of Microsoft Office suite programs (Word, Excel, Outlooks and PowerPoint)

· Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

· Master’s degree

· Experience with a student database system (e.g., Banner, Slate)

· Experience working with diverse student populations
