Amergis Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing - ST in Brush Prairie, Washington

The Teacher for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing teaches deaf and hard-of-hearing pupils in a classroom setting. Instructs in academic subjects of regular curriculum or adapted curriculum to meet needs of student population.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements lesson plans

  • Utilizes the use of technical and specialized equipment for students with hearing loss

  • Prepares lessons that accommodate learning styles

  • Communicates by way of sign/spoken language as appropriate

  • Assists in the selection of instructional materials and equipment

  • Provides training to students or staff to facilitate the child’s learning, inclusion and independence

  • Assesses student learning styles and uses results to plan educational activities

  • Conducts assessments of student progress and achievement using testing methodology

  • Compiles reports, records, and documents as required

  • Participates in IEP meetings with parents, teachers, students, and other School District staff

  • Follow School District policies and procedures

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred

  • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state regulations

  • Knowledge in Sign Language and use of amplification devices for the deaf and hard-of-hearing

  • Experience with deaf and hard-of-hearing students preferred

  • ASL proficiency exam or Certification may be required per state, contract or district

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable

  • Current CPR if applicable

  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site

  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
