ROLE OVERVIEW

The Assistant Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) is a key member of Lasante Health’s clinical leadership team. As a clinical leader within the nursing team, the ANUM plays an integral role in the day to day coordination of clinical care, as well as the operational management of the unit, including supporting Administration with trainings, staffing and ensuring safer care outcomes.

The ANUM will demonstrate a high level of skill in clinical practice, delivering professional and collaborative health services consistent with the clinical, strategic and operational objectives of Lasante Health.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Nurse Unit Manager maintains the following primary responsibilities:

  • Facilitate nursing leadership to ensure safe care outcomes inclusive of effective human and clinical resource management.

  • Provide shift by shift co-ordination of care, supervision and delegation of nursing care within the specific area of practice to facilitate the timely delivery of all patient care.

  • Ensuring that standards of care are met and relevant documentation is filed with regard to:

  • Daily Huddles

  • Preventing and Controlling Healthcare-Associated Infections (Infection control)

  • Medication Safety

  • Inventory Management

  • Providing leadership and guidance in the event of a healthcare or workplace emergency.

  • Fostering a safe and enjoyable work environment through positive work place behavior and effective conflictresolution.

  • Service improvement to ensure the highest standards of nursing care through systematic, solution focused problem solving.

PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES

Consumer Experience

  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to patient-centeredcare

  • Acts as an appropriate patient advocate

  • Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team, students and visitors to facilitate participation and achievement of patient goals

  • Co-ordinates, safe, effective and timely care, inclusive of all relevant referrals, follow-up appointments and patient education

  • Timely response and management or escalation of patient and family concerns

  • Monitors objective, accurate, timely and legible documentation in patient chart

    Quality and Improvement

  • Engages fully in meeting regulatory requirements inclusive of the Health Resources and Services Administration and Department of Health guidelines within daily practice

  • Participates in clinical audits and driving of subsequent quality improvement initiatives as required

  • Participate in and contribute to unit based improvement and relevantmeetings

  • Accountability for coordinating and leading clinical workflows

  • Consistent application of Infection Prevention and Control, as well as OSHA Standards.

    Effective Leadership

Works with Nurse Manager to:

  • Establish and maintain safe and effective clinical practice through team based nursing response

  • Leadership response to critical incident management

  • Escalates clinical and staffing needs appropriately

  • Accountable for appropriate delegation and supervision decisions, reflective of scope of practice limitations delegates may have, ensuring safe and quality patient care

  • Effectively communicates clinical and professional expectations and holds staff accountable for meeting these expectations

  • Motivates team members in ways that are reflective of the vision, philosophy and values of Lasante Health

  • Fosters proactive workplace culture to actively manage or escalate workplace issues, disputes and/or conflicts though organizational processes

  • Maintains a safe and culturally appropriate environment for patients, families, staff and communities

  • Recognizes and embraces individual differences in others including gender, sexual preferences, age, disability and culture

  • Works to ensure organizational objectives aremet

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications: Meets at least the minimum education requirements

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years experience as medical assistant or licensed health care professional

  • Up to date competency in basic life support

  • Leadership experience

    Desirable Previous Experience

  • Nursing experience in Primary Care

  • Clinical leadership
