Academic Program Specialist - Honors Academy

POSITION DETAILS

Brooklyn College is soliciting applications for an Academic Program Specialist for the Honors Academy (HA). Reporting to the Director of the Honors Academy, the Academic Program Specialist provides the academic and administrative support for the program.

Under the auspices of the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Honors Academy at Brooklyn College is a federation of five honors programs, including the Macaulay Honors College and The Scholars Program, as well as two college-wide support programs, Peer Mentoring Program and Tow Undergraduate Research Program. Its curricular and co-curricular programs aim to provide transformative opportunities for students from all backgrounds to develop their potential beyond what they ever imagine. With support from academic departments and in collaboration with areas including the Office of Scholarships and the Magner Career Center, the Honors Academy inspires and prepares students to solve the challenges facing New York City, our nation, and the global community.

In addition the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Program Specialist’s duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain administrative responsibility for supporting development of Honors Academy programming.

  • Manage outreach initiatives to students, faculty and staff within Brooklyn College and to prospective honors program students outside the college, including Open House.

  • Advise and provide student support consistent with guiding students along a timely path to graduation and in relation to prospective career paths.

  • Coordinate workshops and other co-curricular activities designed to enhance and promote student development and success in their academic endeavors.

  • Develop and maintain systems to maximize HA organization and efficiency for directors, staff, students and alumni.

  • Manage HA records (e.g., honors courses) and assist HA director in preparing reports.

  • Track program budgets.

  • Supervise college assistants, federal work study students and other staff.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in student academic support programs.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Experience delivering public presentations.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.

  • Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.

  • Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings

  • Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management

  • Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services

  • Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures

  • Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials

  • May supervise office operations and/or department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$52,267 - $68,004; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
