Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a Career Service position involving professional nursing care in the schools and health department clinics. This position reports directly to the Registered Nurse Consultant.This position may travel between school health clinics.This is a full-time position following the 10-month school year. This position includes general nursing services such as nursing assessments, health appraisals, health screenings, identification of destructive lifestyle behaviors, and basic first aid. Includes referrals to other providers. Provides individual student and client health counseling. Evaluates student specific health care needs and coordinates care between school staff, parents, physician and family to assure a healthy learning environment. Provides health education sessions in the classroom and community. Makes recommendation to staff and parents concerning health needs of individual students. Monitors the health tech’s delivery of medication and first aid in the school clinic. Understands and works toward the Goals to the School Health Plan. Maintains up-to-date student health records and makes home visits to families as needed. Serves as a resource to school personnel in control of communicable diseases. Seeks out events in schools that have a health education need. Provides nursing services in the Health Department clinics such as, but not limited to, nursing assessments, following nursing protocols, assisting practitioners, precepting nursing students, providing immunizations and well child work-ups, phlebotomy, and patient education. Participates in staff meetings. Participates in monthly staff meetings. Attends and participates in Community Improvement Plan meetings and participates in School Health Advisory meetings. Participates in at least one community event/ year. Performs other related duties as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skilled in effective communication; skilled in administering immunizations and vaccinations; knowledge of clinical practices and school health protocols; knowledge of nursing process; ability to organize and recognize efficiencies; knowledge of vaccination schedules and practices; skilled in managing conflict; knowledge of emergency situation protocols; knowledge of nursing protocols; knowledge of pharmacy protocols and guidelines; knowledge of mandatory trainings and license specific trainings. Knowledge in pediatric/adolescent health care.

Qualifications:

Minimum –Clear and Active Florida Registered Nurse License, willing to travel from site to site.

Preferred - Certification in CPR/AED, Pediatric/Adolescent experience, 2 years’ experience working as a RN
