Job Summary

GKN is actively engaged in a series of major, multi £M development programmes with the long term aim of enabling zero emission flight on a series of new aircraft programmes. We want to enable the complete electrification of Aircraft powered by Liquid Hydrogen, Fuel cells and Cryogenically cooled networks and motors. As such we’ve already built up a significant capability with an international team of over 70 specialist Engineers working on Liquid Hydrogen based propulsion systems, including storage (tanks), Fuel management, Fuel cells, Electrical networks, Motors and Inverters, with Cryogenics being an enabling technology. This ground breaking technology is maturing rapidly and we’re searching for specialist Engineers and Scientists who want to work with us in this rapidly changing, dynamic, multifunctional environment to help us push further and faster as we win more programmes and the market accelerates.

As member of the Hydrogen Project Team, you will support the day to day project management activities and be responsible for the coordination and activities associated with control and monitoring of progress, scope, cost and resource management within the GKN program team in the UK and the Netherlands, and its partners. In this role, you will actively work with engineers and technology experts in the field of hydrogen systems.

You will be expected to spend at least 3 days/week in the office.

How You'll Contribute

  • Compile and maintain Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) and schedules/plans for the projects in the UK and Netherlands

  • Drumbeat the teams’ progress against schedules and costs

  • Monitor interdependencies between projects in the UK and Netherlands

  • Analyse and report on progress, scope and costs against the baseline

  • Monitor resource management for the project

  • Proactively identify areas for management attention

  • support in developing recovery plans where deviations demand

  • prepare project stakeholders communication, internally and work with the finance team to prepare governmental reporting

  • Facilitate Risk and Opportunity Management activities, owning the risk register to control and mitigate the risk exposure of the project

  • Establish and maintain robust document management in the project and towards stakeholders;

  • support creation, coordination and delivery of (change) proposals for management or stakeholder;

  • Manage project updates in applicable compilation systems and tools;

  • Maintain the project action log and support timely closure of the tasks;

  • Facilitate the change control process of the project and maintain the change log;

  • Co-ordinate purchase order request activities, pulling together inputs from technical team and driving through to formal approval and guiding new suppliers through the registration process;

  • Support team supplier management post purchase order, including tracking of deliveries and ensuring timely goods receipt actions from item owners.

Essential:

  • Experience in supporting complex technical projects in an engineering or technology environment

  • Experience building complex schedules with dependencies, identify critical path and manage change

  • APM PMQ or equivalent certification

  • Proficient in Microsoft packages; including Word and Excel

    Desirable:

  • Experience of working in a technical team, of circa 50-100 people

  • Experience working in Aerospace

  • Experienced in Earn Value Management
