SCL Health Emergency Department Lead Tech-NIGHTS in Brighton, Colorado

Job Description:This position is responsible for providing both basic and advanced life support to patients in an efficient, knowledgeable and cost effective manner, which is accurately documented and properly coordinated with other health care personnel.

Scope

Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards. Performs other duties as assigned. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need. Collaborates closely with the RN Leader to coordinate technical patient care activities and maintain quality of care in accordance with unit policies and procedures. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift. Obtains patients vital signs to include blood pressure, pulse and temperature and understands normal ranges and changes. Informs RNs or Physician of changes in vital signs. Collects blood, urine, saliva and stool samples for laboratory analysis. Inserts Foley catheters, performs straight catheters, provides wound care. Fits patients for casts and/or hard splints, crutches and other devices. Performs 12-lead EKGs. Provides instruments to doctors and nurses as they perform procedures on patients. Assists with the safe movement of patients, applying principles of safe patient handling. Assists with admitting patients into the ER, schedules patient transfers, reinforces patient education/discharge instructions as given by the RN. Apply, check and document restraints as directed by the RN or Physician. Performs the duties of unit secretary. Maintains patient charts, responds to phone calls, maintains daily assignment board, provides equipment care/cleaning, performs errands associated with patient care and provides accurate information about the patient with interdisciplinary team. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by Service Assists and supports staff in problem solving and responding to situations related to patient care, resource management, physician concerns, risk management, associate safety, and Hospital Safety. Oversees training and orientation of new Emergency Room Technicians. Collaborates with SSC and adjusts assignments for department needs during the shift. Communicates with SSC and other leadership members about census, staffing, potential problems, and observations on department flow. Supports SSC and the department management team in managing department productivity, coordinating unit activities, and facilitating change processes. Advocates for staff, patients, and department concerns. Collaborates with staff to ensure department cleanliness, stocking, and regulatory checks are performed. Participates in Team Meetings and hospital committees as EDT/BHT representative. Works with ED Leadership to establish agenda items in preparation for leading the ED Tech Quarterly Meetings. Assists with evaluations and coaching associates.

Minimum Qualifications

Required High School Diploma or equivalent Completion of Basic EMT training program or Paramedic Training is required in the state of practice Current Basic EMT or Paramedic license in state of practice is required Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLSHCP)certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval Current IV Certification in state of practice is required Minimum 1 year experience as an EMT Minimum 1 year working in Hospital Setting

Preferred Ultrasound Guided IV Certification 3+ years experience as EMT in Hospital Setting

This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
