The Vermont Department of Health has a dynamic opportunity for an enthusiastic professional who wants to join a dedicated interdisciplinary team making a difference in the health of Windham County. We are seeking a well-organized and energetic person with great communication skills and the ability to work with people from various backgrounds and cultures to complete our public health team in the Brattleboro District Office.

\ The Nutrition Assistant position is an opportunity to work with clients and community partners in direct support of the Women Infants and Children (WIC) program. This position provides nutrition education to WIC clients and administrative support to the team. The successful candidate will:\ Work directly with WIC participants in a clinical setting completing nutrition assessments, setting health and nutrition goals, and completing the WIC certification process with nutrition consulting assistance from a higher-level nutritionist professional.\ Maintain relationships and conduct outreach with appropriate human services agencies and community resources.\ Conduct group nutrition education for clients and the public.\ Provide administrative support for the program technician.

Environmental Factors

Duties primarily performed in District Office settings or in outlying service sites.

Travel to outlying sites will require a driver\'s license. Private means of transportation may be required.

Occasional travel to statewide trainings required. Potential travel in difficult weather conditions.

There is considerable intera ction with staff, clients, community partners, providers and the general public. At times of public health emergencies (floods, infectious disease outbreaks, etc.) individuals may be expected to assist. Physical demands vary with the position; generally limited to carrying equipment needed to conduct clinic and education activities. Employees work with a variety of clients and may have contact with potentially dangerous and combative individuals as well as a wide variety of illnesses and diseases. Certain functions may require duty outside of normal work hours.
