Ricoh Americas Corporation Senior Quality Assurance & Hardware Engineer in Boulder, Colorado
Ricoh is seeking a Continuous Forms printer test and Device Verification Test engineer to join our team of talented and diverse Quality Development Engineers (QDE) to develop, qualify and support the next generation of production and commercial printing products.
The experienced test engineer will work with a global development and test team:
Primary responsibility: Qualify and deliver Digital Front End (DFE) code and firmware solutions for production and commercial continuous forms printers.
Secondary responsibility: Provide field support for customer solutions.
Additionally: Execute device verification testing when needed. This includes interpreting product claims and designing and executing tests to ensure that control unit microcode and printer hardware and firmware work together as a system.
The test engineer will work with state-of-the-art printing equipment and utilize multiple test methodologies to analyze requirements, design testing approaches, plan and execute comprehensive evaluations, collect and analyze data and prepare detailed reports of the results. The test engineer will also participate and drive continuous product and test improvements through retrospectives and test automation.
The candidate must possess solid data analysis skills, be able to operate complex printer engines, and have an understanding of customer environments to recommend improvements for increased customer satisfaction. The candidate must also have strong interpersonal skills including teaming, communication, and multitasking along with a positive creative attitude. Leadership competencies are also valuable for potential leadership assignments.
The candidate should have a programming background and previous experience in Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Test Engineering, Computer Science, or related Engineering field. The candidate should have at least 2 years’ testing experience.
Duties include:
Analysis of Printer high level designs and/or printer specifications
Design experiments to qualify the product
Generate test scenarios and/or user stories
Execute test activities and analyze / summarize test results
Provide field support activities to assist Development resolution
Operate high speed continuous forms printers to ensure functions satisfy customer expectations
Identify and implement breakthrough innovation and process improvements
Utilize test automation to increase test coverage
The work location for this position is full-time onsite at the Ricoh facility in Boulder, CO.
Basic Qualifications
2+ years of Quality Assurance experience
Programming background and previous experience in Software Engineering, Test Engineering and/or Computer Science.
Experience with software development repositories, test tracking repositories and bug tracking utilities
Mechanical engineering or related background
Experience configuring and operating mechanical hardware
Expertise in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of mechanical and/or electrical problems.
Knowledge of server-class hardware systems and configuration
Operating Systems knowledge (Linux, MS Windows)
Excellent teaming skills with global cross functional development, test and customer support teams
Ability to provide leadership and direction within the area of expertise
Strong technical communication skills (written, verbal, technical report creation)
Detail-oriented and able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in fast paced environment.
General office and project software (MS Office, project issue tracking, Adobe Photoshop)
Preferred Skills
Experience with printer controllers and printer server software
Understanding of print data streams (IPDS, PDF, PostScript, PCL, PPML, etc.)
Understanding of digital image data formats (TIFF, JPEG, GIF, etc.)
Experience with printer controllers and printer server software
I/O System Architecture knowledge
Server System Architecture knowledge
Understanding of image processing
Color Science experience
Experience utilizing multiple development processes, including Agile, Iterative and Waterfall.
Experience with Jira issue and project tracking software
AI knowledge and related application
Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Shell Scripts
Physical Job Requirements
Job role requires walking, standing bending, reaching, lifting, or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
Moderate dexterity – regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, touchscreen monitor, hand/eye coordination, adjustment of sensors or tools that are located within the printer framework).
Physical effort will occasionally be required to access machinery that is close to the floor or under framework that will require bending down low and/or crouching.
Education / Certification
- B.S. in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other equivalent Engineering degree.
