Job Information

Autodesk Product Owner, Revit in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Requisition ID #

24WD78813

Position Overview

The Autodesk Revit team is seeking a Product Owner to drive improvements to Revit’s modeling and detailing capabilities. Our software is used by hundreds of thousands of architects, engineers, and other building industry professionals to design everything from the world’s tallest skyscrapers, largest airports, and new landmarks to homes and businesses that you visit every day.

As a Product Owner, you’ll be part of a small, cross-functional software development team including software engineers, quality assurance analysts, and experience designers. Within that team, you’ll be a passionate advocate for the customer, helping the team understand how the software will get used in the real world and translating customer needs and feedback into actionable changes in the software.

Day to day, you’ll be responsible for working with our product management team to understand larger strategic goals and helping the team break these down into specific features that can be implemented, tested, and validated with customers. You and your team will also be the owners for some existing features of Revit and your priorities for the team will need to balance work on new features, improvements to existing areas, and responsiveness to immediate customer problems.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with a variety of customers, seeking their feedback on work in progress and integrating that feedback into the team’s planning to make sure your team creates features that are valuable and easy to use

  • Collaborate with your team to break down larger, more strategic objectives into specific milestones and deliverables that account for both the needs of customers and the considerations around developing and testing the software

  • Work with a broad group of stakeholders to keep them aligned around the planning, progress, and tradeoffs that the team needs to make

  • Communicate extensively about the work your team is doing, on any given day you could be preparing demo videos, authoring requirements for your team, engaging with a customer in our research community, drafting release notes, or following up with the support team about a customer issue

  • Drive efficient and effective decision-making at a variety of levels to help your team move forward

  • Learn different aspects of the software development process and seek mentoring from experts so you can acquire new skills. You might be hearing from software developers what goes into developing an API or operating a service, or learning how to conduct usability tests for your teams new features, create a good survey, or do basic UI design

  • Manage competing priorities and make sure your team prioritizes the things that are most valuable for customers and for the health of the product

Minimum Qualifications

  • You have professional experience working on AEC projects that are modeled in Revit – experience as a BIM manager and/or architect would be most helpful but other backgrounds are welcome to apply

  • You make compelling cases for your ideas and opinions. In particular, you can communicate your opinions and technical knowledge to a diverse audience – including folks who don’t have the same level of expertise as you

  • You are decisive, but you also have a track record of balancing decision speed with consulting with other experts and gathering data. You can provide concrete examples of how you have adapted your opinions and plans in response to feedback and data

  • You have experience guiding and tracking larger efforts until they have been completed to your expectations

  • Your experience shows that you can be successful at the day to day activities of a product owner

  • You do not need to have any experience at writing software yourself but you are comfortable communicating with software engineers and working with them to understand what is technically feasible
