75978BRJob Posting Title:VP, Lead General CounselDepartment:General CounselAutoReqId:75978BRStatus:Full-TimeStandard Hours per Week:40 Job Posting Category:LegalJob Posting Description: We are seeking an experienced healthcare attorney to oversee regulatory enforcement related matters across the enterprise and to serve as the lead attorney with respect to behavioral health matters across the enterprise with a focus on legal affairs at Franciscan Children’s Hospital. This will include providing strategic legal guidance and risk management to address legal and regulatory issues and optimize operational alignment and compliance with the Office of General Counsel. The position will be part of the senior leadership team at the OGC with a matrixed reporting structure with the Office of General Counsel at Boston Children’s Hospital and the CEO and executive team at Franciscan Children’s.

This Vice President, Lead General Counsel will:

  • Serve as a primary contact within the OGC to facilitate the integration and alignment of the legal and compliance functions between Boston Children’s Hospital and affiliated organizations, with a focus in regulatory enforcement and behavioral health related matters.

  • Collaborate with other executive management team members to align departmental strategy or direction with the organization's overall goals. Develop policies, practices, and procedures that significantly impact the organization.

  • Direct the day-to-day operation of specific department segments, including management of the affiliated Associate General Counsel and outside attorneys retained to represent BCH and affiliated organizations.

  • Manage personnel actions, including hiring, performance management, and termination. Supervision is often provided through a team of subordinate managers and directors.

  • Address a broad range of legal and compliance matters, including issues related to corporate governance, Medicaid provider regulations, state licensure requirements for hospitals and special education schools, state and federal privacy rules, state and federal regulatory requirements, employment law, contracts, policy review and enforcement, internal investigations, conflict of interest, and responses to inquiries from internal and external sources.

  • Provide strategic legal counsel to support executive decision-making on major policy and operational matters.

  • Manage legal affairs at affiliated organizations and serve as primary point of contact for legal issues to promote legal compliance and risk mitigation.

    To qualify, you must have:

  • JD from an accredited law school and current licensure by the applicable board of Bar Overseers or equivalent license is required.

  • Minimum of 10 years related interdisciplinary experience, including academic medical center and industry experience, knowledge of corporate and non-profit law, and knowledge of health care regulatory framework including Foreign Corrupt Practices Act

  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to develop and mentor others and drive strategic direction.

  • Analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of scientific or technical principles, theories, and concepts and in-depth, experience-based cross-functional knowledge.

  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to represent the hospital in legal proceedings, negotiate in critical and sensitive situations, and persuade members of the Executive Management Group on issues and programs that impact their departments

  • Ability to influence others and build collaborative relationships.
