Job Description

This position reports to the LATAM Medical Head and is a high profile, strategic in-country leadership role, with principal responsibility for leading and building the medical organisation and developing the scientific and medical strategy in the LATAM North Cluster. As a member of the country leadership team, the CMD is the direct link between the aesthetics R&D organisation and the local country aesthetics team.

This position manages Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), provides scientific and operational strategic input into core medical affairs activities such as: Scientific exchange with HCPs, KOLs engagement, pre and post launch scientific activities; medical education initiatives, scientific communications, value proposition and safety surveillance activities. Works closely with brand and commercial teams to create a tactical local medical plan and provides strategic medical input into core brand strategies, launches, and educational strategies.

Key duties and responsibilities

Strategic and Business Leadership

  • Lead, build and manage the Country Aesthetics Team

  • Actively engage with the Global and Affiliate Medical functions to ensure that country level priorities and needs are championed, and that Global strategy is implemented in Country.

  • As a member of Country Aesthetics Business Unit team provides input and support to the Lead for the operation of the Allergan business unit organisation

  • Partner with the country commercial team to develop commercial plans to ensure the continued success of the organisation and scientific competitive leadership of the Allergan products.

  • Provide proactive input and reactive support to the R&D development strategy and projects according to Country and Global needs.

  • Work closely with the Affiliate Medical Director(s) to operationalize plans with support from shared services within Medical Affairs

External Engagement

  • Interact with top local Key Thought Leaders or healthcare decision makers at scientific meetings and other forums

  • The AAMD is the local Allergan scientific spokesperson with key stakeholders for the company, e.g. educational events, medical societies, regulators, payers and all other key healthcare decision makers

  • Attend relevant medical congresses to extend medical knowledge, provide medical expertise and establish new/strengthen existing business relationships

Team Management

  • Recruit and retain a team of high performing professionals, providing coaching and leadership to enable everyone to reach their full potential

  • Develop and execute an aligned Country Aesthetics Medical plan with clear KPIs milestones and deliverables

  • Collaborate with Global Medical Excellence team to harmonise MSL’s activities and maximise value to the organisation

  • Ensure that the CMO team executes all plans with strict adherence to applicable company standards, policies and procedures and any country legislations or regulations maintaining high medical and ethical standards in all activities

  • Maintain and monitor all reporting and budget expenditures

Shared Medical Functions & HEOR

  • Provide support as needed to the affiliate safety organisation e.g. assistance in product safety issues, HA inspections/audits, CAPAs, and training activities

  • Provide support as required for the technical and scientific content of medical information enquiries

  • Collaborate with In-Country HEOR managers (where applicable) to develop and deliver integrated Country Aesthetics plans

Qualifications

  • Strong preference for medical degree (MD or MBBS), Pharmacist or relevant scientist with PhD possible

  • Minimum of 2 years of medical affairs experience in the pharmaceutical industry

  • Related specialist in Dermatology or experience in Dermatology, Plastic surgery or Medical Aesthetics therapeutic area is preferred

  • Medical affairs experience in various activities such as advisory board management, publication, and other scientific exchange

  • Good understanding of domestic market

  • Experience in establishing strong influential relationships with KOLs

  • Experience of working collaboratively and cross-functionally in a matrix structure, supporting multiple stakeholders

  • Good leadership skills and able to persuade at all levels within the organization (including Commercial team) as well as with external customers (KOLs, HCPs, etc.)

  • Thinking strategically and being able to develop and execute plans at country level

  • Specifically, able to understand in-depth knowledge and clinical aspects of the medical aesthetics

  • Excellent presentation skills, strong interpersonal skills

  • Able to engage HCPs and communicate effectively with them as well as medical institution and/or association

  • Comply to all business ethic and all applicable regulations to secure personal credibility and integrity as well as Allergan

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and convey clinical and non-clinical technical information effectively to individuals with varying degrees of scientific acumen.
