    The Engineering department is responsible for supporting CGMP operations through process engineering, facilities and utilities engineering, calibration, process improvement and automation, packaging, capital projects, while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

    This key role is part of a high performing automation engineering team who play an active role in making our plants perform optimally.

    The Position

    As an Engineering Technician (Automation), you will support and partner with process and automation engineers and technicians to support the process automation and utility control systems.

    Shift: Weekend PM (4/3 schedule)

    Relationships

    Reports to: Senior Manager, Engineering Process

    Essential Functions:

  • Monitor and troubleshoot process automation and control systems under the guidance of engineers, including automation programming and resolving hardware and electrical issues.

  • Develop, execute, and revise preventative maintenance checklists as needed to ensure optimal system performance.

  • Assist in coordinating equipment/systems installations, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Perform automation and control system access requests/removals, adhering to established protocols and procedures.

  • Participate in automation and control system periodic reviews, including system access and audit trail reviews, to identify areas for improvement.

  • Develop, execute, and manage test cases for pre-approved changes and Installation/Operational Qualifications (IQ/OQ) of various systems/equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Support the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)/Maximo (CM/CMR/CC) and change management workflow, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.

  • Author and own deviations, including investigations and root cause analysis, and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA's) related to control system performance and maintenance, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with Automation engineers in responding to audits, providing technical expertise and support as needed.

  • Implement continuous improvements to equipment maintenance documents for planning and execution purposes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot of critical systems

  • Create/revise preventative maintenance checklist

  • Assist in coordinating equipment/system installations

  • Monitor installation/operational qualification (IQ/QQ) of various systems/equipment

    Support Maximo (CM/CMR/CC) workflow

  • Follow general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions of new work

  • Effectively document work performed following required documentation practices

  • Escort and supervise contractors through facility for routine inspections or repairs, ensuring they complete activities per procedure or agreements

  • Contribute to the creation of maintenance and calibration procedures and update existing procedures to match best practices and lessons learned

  • Recommend Automation improvements to meet OSHA safety, ISPE, or FDA guidelines

  • Assist with onboarding integration of new equipment and retiring obsolete equipment

    Physical Requirements

    Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reading of written documents and use of computer monitor screen, reaching with hands and arms, talking, writing, listening. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, carrying, grasping. Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Must comply with EHS responsibilities for the position. Working conditions will be heating ventilation and air condition controlled. Working in a lab environment will require working with skin irritants, lung irritants, electrical equipment, sharp instruments, toxic materials, and hazardous waste. Safety engineering practices and procedures will be followed to minimize exposure, including clean room gowning.

    Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:

  • High school (HS) diploma or GED minimally required degree

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required with HS diploma/GED

  • Associate degree in related field, preferred; Associates degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience may be considered.

  • Highly skilled and/or certified in at least one trade

  • Automation training/experience preferred

  • Must be able to read and understand English-written job instructions and safety requirements

  • Relevant experience includes some combination of the below technical experience:

  • Ability to see and hear, read, and write clear English

  • Programming, troubleshooting, and electrical aptitude

  • Ability to gown for entry in clean room environment

  • Ability to operate within a clean room environment

  • General facility repair, maintenance, and up-keep

  • Ability to understand basic training and apply the knowledge to work activities

  • Ability to apply basic math

  • Ability to use Excel, Word, and other office systems

  • Ability to review data to ensure data is well organized with complete documentation

  • Ability to problem solve and execute/monitor corrective actions independently

  • Ability to cross-train on techniques across multiple groups

  • Behavioral Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow/retain detailed written and verbal instruction in an accurate, timely, safe, and professional manner with supervisor, group members, and other departments as necessary, in a professional and accurate manner

  • Ability to manage time effectively to complete assignments in expected time frame and independently seek out additional work when tasks are completed ahead of time

  • Ability to cooperate with coworkers within an organized team environment or work alone
