Manages all pattern activities with vendors: new pattern purchases, pattern modifications, repairs and maintenance. Coordinates moving of patterns from one vendor to another when needed. Disseminates information concerning patterns, core boxes, gating, rigging, etc., to vendors. Assists sales by offering alternative products to customers when needed items are not readily available. Assists in analyzing potential vendors casting and manufacturing capabilities. Maintains a database for patterns, drawings, etc. and coordinates activities with current vendors and potential vendors. Assists Purchasing procurement group in related areas of responsibility as required (product procurement, coating and lining process application, etc.). Involved to facilitate the sale of obsolete equipment from idle areas of the plant. This includes advertising, pricing, disassembly and liability, etc.

  • Manages all patterns at vendor locations; recommends new pattern purchases and monitors pattern conditions and justifies repairs, maintenance and replacement.
  • Identifies alternative or substitute products (modified or custom machined or designed) to customers when an off-the-shelf item is not available or will not meet customer needs.
  • Locates, approves and develops casting vendors by traveling to their facility and analyzing the foundry's capabilities and practices regarding products produced, and evaluating quality, prices and delivery performance history.
  • Develops manufacturing requirements with vendors regarding casting specifications development, compliance, blueprint maintenance, accuracy and interpretation.
  • Maintains a current blueprint file and engineering data tables and assures accuracy of vendor blueprints. Disburses all changes and modifications both internally at AMERICAN and to vendors with regard to blueprints.
  • Demonstrates molding and casting practices and procedures to vendors on new and existing castings. Explains techniques and methods to assist vendors in foundry casting processes.
  • Determines when to move patterns and equipment from one vendor to another to meet AMERICAN's customer requirements.
  • Facilitates the sale of obsolete equipment. This can include advertisement, pricing, selection of customer, and assistance in coordinating disassembly and transportation arrangements, etc.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly. Knows safety rules that apply to the safety of others and to personal safety. Reports malfunction of equipment to proper authority. Perform other work as instructed by supervision.
  • Develops and maintains online databases relating to this position. Keeps internal and external customers up-to-date with drawings, change notifications, etc.
  • Remains aware of the latest equipment, production processes, market activities, etc. through contact with counterparts at other companies, interaction with Foundry personnel, and attendance at local and national foundry meetings.
  • Negotiates products, freight terms and duties, and import requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must exhibit a thorough knowledge of AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe manufacturing processes and product lines, patterns, castings, pattern rigging, and molding techniques or similar processes and products.
  2. Must exhibit the ability to recognize configurations of castings, coatings and linings of AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe products or similar products.
  3. Must exhibit the ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering data tables.
  4. Must exhibit the ability to be accurate, dependable and able to work under sustained pressure.
  5. Must exhibit a working knowledge of word rocessing and spreadsheet software such as Word, Excel, etc.
  6. Must exhibit good interpersonal skills to appropriately communicate via telephone or E-mail with vendors and internal customers.
  7. Must exhibit good command of grammar and spelling.
  8. Must exhibit a record of punctuality and good attendance and satisfactory performance reviews.
  9. Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  10. Must exhibit the ability to travel both domestically and internationally as required in order to perform the job duties and represent the company when needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Prior work experience with patterns and knowledge of casting techniques.
  2. Experience working with ASI.

  • Climbing ladder required to inspect patterns and fittings located at outside manufacturing facilities.
  • Balancing required while on ladder and while on truck inspecting patterns and fittings.
  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling required to inspect patterns, fittings, equipment, and materials.
  • Overhead reach required to get onto trucks in order to inspect patterns and fittings.
  • Forward reach required for routine desk activities. Forward reach also required for inspecting patterns and fittings.
  • Bended reach required to inspect patterns, fittings, equipment and materials.
  • Handling required to inspect patterns and fittings, answer telephone, etc.
  • Use of fingers required for keyboard, digital phone, writing, paperwork, etc.
  • Feeling required to properly inspect patterns and fittings.
  • Talking required for person-to-person conversation and on the telephone with outside manufacturing facilities and AMERICAN personnel.
  • Vision required to inspect patterns and fittings. Also required for safety within manufacturing facilities.
  • Hearing required for safety and communication.
  • Lifting/carrying required for patterns and fittings weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Pushing/pulling required for patterns and fittings weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
