Guthrie VP, Nursing Services - Administration - Full Time in Binghamton, New York
The salary range for this position is $165,505 -258,298.
Position Summary: Reporting to the President of Guthrie Lourdes Hospital, the VP, Nursing Services/Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) has the responsibility of overall strategic planning process for nursing services at Guthrie Lourdes Hospital. The VP/CNO also collaborates with the Guthrie System CNO to assure one standard of care and nursing practice across the Guthrie Enterprise. The VP/CNO also collaborates with senior leaders throughout the system to provide direction for an interdisciplinary model of care. Additional responsibilities will include centralized management of staffing resource allocations, nursing clinical education, achievement of Magnet or Pathways to Excellence recognition, peer review, and nursing research as well as assessing quality management and performance improvement, JCAHO, state regulatory requirements and other accreditation and licensure for the hospital. The VP/CNO is ultimately accountable and responsible for establishing, directing and evaluating professional practice for nursing staff on a 24‐hour basis throughout Guthrie Lourdes Hospital. The VP/CNO is responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care through established standards subscribed by the American Nurses Association (ANA), American Organization of Nurse Executives (ANOE) and in accordance with the PA Nurse Practice Act. The VP/CNO is an integral member of the hospital's senior leadership team, focused on strategic direction, performance improvement, clinical outcomes, financial measures, and other indicators of operational effectiveness. The VP/CNO, at the executive level, assumes an active leadership role with the hospital's governing body, senior leadership, medical staff, management, and other clinical leaders in the Hospital's decision‐making structure and process. The VP/CNO also participates in meetings with the Guthrie Health senior leadership to advance the mission, vision, and goals of the system.
Education, License & Cert: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, Masters Required. National Nursing Certification preferred. Able to be licensed as a Registered Nurse within the state of Pennsylvania. Specialty certifications in a health‐related nursing field encouraged.
Experience: Minimum of five to ten years of nursing experience in healthcare operations with progressive leadership responsibilities and accomplishments required. Three years of senior management or executive level position in an organization of similar or larger size preferred. Experience with Magnet accreditation is preferred. Must possess the knowledge and ability to manage hospital operations through administrative ability, initiative, resourcefulness, with executive and analytical ability. Must have experience in strategic planning, organizational assessment, and have highly developed leadership and interpersonal skills.
Essential Functions: 1. Is responsible and accountable for professional practice of nursing. Establishes standards for Nursing Practice and is responsible for designing the Professional Practice Model. Defines nursing policies and procedures, and outcomes. Governance issues to include: a. Defined scope of practice b. Defined standards of care based on research and/or evidence‐based practice c. System for competency determination and ongoing evaluation d. Professional education and development e. Policies and procedures f. Staffing standards and resource allocation 2. Develops and implements an integrated evidenced based professional practice model for patient care that supports the unique attributes of each professional discipline and results in a cohesive, collaborative, interdisciplinary patient care team that focuses on the needs of the patient and family. 3. Provides leadership for the evaluation and aggregation of clinical outcomes that reflect the quality of patient care delivery and the effectiveness of the interdisciplinary team. Oversees performance improvements related to the aggregate clinical outcomes. 4. Administrative responsibility for achieving goals and desired outcomes. Included but not limited to: patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, cost/workload unit, clinical quality outcomes, and patient throughput for the RPH Sayre and Towanda Campuses Nursing Departments. 5. Supports Nursing objectives in achieving goals and desired outcomes. Included but not limited to: patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, cost/workload unit, clinical quality outcomes, and patient throughput and promotes a multidisciplinary professional practice environment that is aligned with such service‐specific outcomes. 6. Maintains effective relationships with the medical staff and participates on hospital medical staff committees as appropriate. 7. Establishes and evaluates a plan for patient care delivery based on standards of practice and standards of care that integrate the hospital's mission and goals. 8. Provides input and leadership to the development, integration, and accomplishment of organization‐wide performance goals. 9. Attends RPH Board meetings and provides administrative staff support to Board and committees. 10. Assumes a leadership role and serves as a role model in practice of the organization values. Other Duties: 1. Provides administrative direction and leadership to various hospital committees (i.e. Nursing Practice, Patient Care Leadership, and Ethics Committee) and responds to bioethical and related issues that may impact professional practice and the delivery of health care. 2. Ensures mechanisms for employee participation (at all levels) in the development, implementation, and evaluation of professional practice. 3. Maintains effective relationships with local/regional educators and/or deans of Schools of Nursing and Allied Health programs. 4. Represents the hospital in community and/or civic roles as requested.
