       Visual Arts Teacher (Grades 8-12)Biddeford High Schoolis currently looking for an Art teacher for high school grades 8-12. This teacher will be responsible for creating lessons and working collaboratively with the art department and entire Unified Arts Team at the Biddeford School Department. We are looking for a teacher who is organized, energetic, creative and resourceful. Classes may include Digital Photography, 3-D Art and Printing, Art for Everyone and Painting & Drawing with the possibility of creating new art offerings in the future.QUALIFICATIONS:1. Eligible for appropriate Maine Department of Education certification.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides learning opportunities in one or more of the following areas: reading, language arts, social studies,mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, music and citizenship to students using the curriculum adopted by the District.

  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide customized, small and large group instruction.

  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to student learning.

  • Build relationships with students to help encourage success, increase self-esteem and cultivate a sense of belonging in school and community.

  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.

  • Regularly assesses each student’s academic and social growth, maintains appropriate and timely records, and prepares progress reports.

  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means such as newsletters, email, phone calls, student information system postings (as applicable), web pages, blogs, and other electronic means to discuss student’s progress as it relates to curriculum.

  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to help students assess and benefit from the district curriculum.

  • Creates an effective learning environment through a variety of learning tools.

  • Continues professional growth through various means such as professional learning communities, conferences workshops, professional memberships and readings, etc.

  • Selects and budgets books, instructional supplies, equipment and technology based on best practices aligned with the district curriculum.

  • Administers standardized and common assessments in accordance with district and state assessment schedules.

  • Participates in professional development in order to advance the vision and mission of the district.

  • Regular participation on school and/or district committees is strongly encouraged.

  • Regularly utilizes student data to inform instruction.

  • Maintains technological proficiency for purposes of instruction, reporting and communicating.

  • Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.

  • Facilitates critical thinking, problem solving and creativity skills.

  • Advances the vision, the mission and school improvement efforts of the school district.

  • Participates in parent conferences, open houses, and other required school events based on the responsibilities of the assigned position.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned by the Building Leader.
