Boehringer Ingelheim Scientist Systems Pharmacology in Biberach, Germany

The Position

Boehringer Ingelheim is expanding its Systems Pharmacology team in the global Translational Medicine & Clinical Pharmacology Data Science (TMCP DS) group in Biberach and Ingelheim, Germany. TMCP DS's mandate is to enhance disease understanding by maximizing knowledge generation from data through integrative and holistic data analyses and to collaborate with our neighboring functions in decision making for clinical development programs.

As a member of the Clinical Bioinformatics and Systems Pharmacology team you will contribute to our drug development teams, engage with stakeholders and interact in a highly interdisciplinary environment with colleagues from biomarkers, bioinformatics, pharmacometrics, clinical pharmacology, as well as medicine and research.

This position can be filled in Ingelheim or Biberach.

This position is limited for 2 years.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • You will interact with project teams and coherently design the Systems Pharmacology strategy to understand drug-patient-disease relationships and to maximize therapeutic benefit of our investigational products.

  • As an expert in your field, you will contribute to an interdisciplinary environment, partnering with biomarker experts, clinical pharmacologists and collaborating with various functions from our Research and Medical departments to plan, design, execute and appropriately document relevant analyses, thereby supporting internal decision making ultimately leading to successful approvals.

  • Furthermore, you will understand pharmacology and biology related research questions and translate them into actionable mathematical modelling approaches.

  • You will implement first-hand or support CRO implementation of mechanistic disease models which integrate public and proprietary datasets to improve understanding of the underlying biology in relation to proposed mechanisms of action, biomarkers and clinical endpoints.

  • Moreover, you will clearly communicate modeling and simulation results to a non-modeler audience to enable profitable discussion and inform decision-making.

Requirements

  • PhD in Systems Pharmacology, Engineering, Physics, Computer Sciences, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics or a related life sciences field

  • First industry experience in applying mathematical modeling and implementing Systems Pharmacology projects is a plus

  • Solid knowledge of systems pharmacology modeling activities and knowledge of biology, physiology and pharmacology

  • Experience in one of Boehringer Ingelheim’s key therapeutic areas is a plus (Inflammation, Cardio-Renal-Metabolism, CNS, Retinal Health)

  • Proficient use of programming and data analysis software (e.g. R, MATLAB, Python, Julia) and modeling frameworks (e.g. SimBiology, SBML)

  • Team player ideally with first experience working in cross-functional teams (global, multicultural and partially-remote)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with expertise in production of formal modeling and simulation reports
