St. Luke's University Health Network Outpatient Lab Phlebotomy Staffing Coordinator in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

The Outpatient Laboratory Staffing Coordinator is responsible for personnel/site coverage management and mobile patient appointment scheduling. Responsible for answering incoming calls and making outbound calls (both to patients and employees) to ensure accurate scheduling of patient’s mobile lab appointments, patient service center coverage for employee unscheduled absence call offs and the outpatient lab department’s employee work schedules.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to effectively multitask and juggle priorities on an ongoing basis.

  • Responsible for accurately preparing/organizing work schedule ensuring that outpatient lab department staffing requirements for every work shift, at over 50+ patient service centers, comply with the policies of SLUHN & outpatient lab services department

  • Acts as a network resource for scheduling assistance in all areas of outpatient lab testing. Work closely with department employees and leadership

  • Expected to prioritize and balance employee resources to ensure PSCs open on time for patient access needs while balancing internal financial metrics such as productivity

  • Duties involve developing and keeping daily reports (on employees) that have to do with verifying the work hours of every employee, verifying employees’ requests for leave or time off. Verifying vacancies that may exist in the department

  • Receives call outs for the Outpatient Lab departmental Patient Service Centers (PSCs) and coordinates appropriate PSC staffing coverage

  • Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify staffing/coverage solutions for departmental employee unscheduled absence call offs, FMLAs, iFMLAs, etc. to ensure PSCs open their doors for patients

  • Acts as backup support to help maintain the patient work queues for the Outpatient Lab department

  • Works to ensure parity among phlebotomists and floats, where possible, in traveling and covering different sites. Ability to handle employee pushback effectively to ensure consistency in travel rotation among the team

  • Registers mobile LabNow patient at time of appointment entry. Ensures accurate and timely verification of all financial information for all lab services to ensure proper reimbursement

  • Updates and or communicates correct patient information to appropriate staff, hospital departments, and computer systems. Works with coordinator, supervisor and managers on any scheduling or insurance issues

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting for up to 8 hours/day, multiple hours at a time; In a typical workday, the manual dexterity and ability to use fingers/hands for repetitive action would include frequent fingering for computer use, data entry, etc. Sensory requirements necessary to perform essential functions in a typical workday include the ability for touching, hearing normal conversation, and seeing with general vision.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree, or equivalent critical thinking/problem-solving training preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Prior customer experience preferred. Prior experience with EPIC, Teams and scheduling resources applications preferred.
