GAP Solutions Inc Biologist in Bethesda, Maryland

Position Objective: Provide services as a Biologist in support of the overall functions of the Division of Intramural Research (DIR), Central Sequencing Program (CSP) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform work on the NIAID centralized sequencing initiative.

  • Assist with analyze and interpret genetic variants, assess their clinical relevance, help establish phenotype-genotype links, review a large spectrum of genetic immune disorders and related phenotypes, generate and review clinical test reports .

  • Report and present data to the Federal Task Leader and other members of the lab.

  • Perform a varity of laboratory procedures and techniques.

  • Perform the use of congenic, transgenic, and knockout mice; analyses of lymphoma cell lines; DNA and tissue microarrays; and molecular and cell biology.

  • Perform work using laboratory instruments used to perform tests, analyses, and other laboratory procedures.

  • Maintain accurate daily records of experiments and results.

  • Write reports of findings, stating methods and procedures, including any modifications employed specimens and materials involved, and results of experiments.

  • Provide quality control of the laboratory including upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment.

  • Assist in conducting behavioral and genetic counseling research.

  • Work on emerging genetic and genetic counseling issues and recommend responses to such issues.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in related field is required.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience is required.

  • Effective and clear communication skills and the ability to work in a high stress environment.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.

  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
