PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Directs and coordinates appropriate, timely, and cost-effective delivery of health care through Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Medical Examinations. This includes coordinating with OHS and business units to schedule and perform CDL Medical Examinations, through a thorough review of medical history, assessment of fitness for safe operation of commercial vehicle, documentation of findings, and maintaining accurate and confidential records. Has a vast knowledge of and remains current with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and guidelines. Ability to effectively case manage for Short-term disability (STD) benefit plan, urgent and emergency care, Fit for Duty (FFD) compliance and maintenance, provide immunizations, transitions employees back into the return to work, review medical documentation for applicable Americans with Disability (ADA) and limited duty work for worker's compensation and non-worker's compensation illness and injury.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Conduct thorough DOT physical examinations for CDL drivers. Review medical history and assess driver fitness for safe operation of commercial vehicles. Document all findings and issue DOT medical certificates. Maintain accurate and confidential medical records (60%)

  • Coordinate and schedule DOT CDL Medical Examinations with OHS nurses (10%)

  • Consults and, at times, will manage cases requiring Physician level review, high frequency and/or high-risk injuries/illnesses. Coordinates and or performs ongoing evaluations, treatment plans and/or recommendations. Maintains accurate and confidential case notes to support all recommendations and decisions. (10%)

  • Stay current with FMCSA regulations and guidelines. (5%)

  • Evaluates essential job functions and identifies and implements necessary limitations, accommodations, and part-time work for high frequency/high risk cases in which such an intervention could reduce the length of disability. (5%)

  • Determines service needs, selects appropriate network service providers, evaluates provider services, and makes recommendations for retention or removal from the network. (5%)

  • Coordinates with benefits, legal, labor, HR operations, safety and industrial hygiene supervisors and other company areas for case management factors, concepts, and concerns. (5%)

JOB SCOPE

Reports to OHS Lead Clinician. 24/7 rotating call for triaging work injuries.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (Licensed in State where service provided). Registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration National Registry to perform CDL medical exams as a certified DOT medical examiner. Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations and guidelines. 2 to 5 years of occupational health nursing experience or related field. Knowledge and understanding of the provision of case management for workers compensation, disability, limited duty, safety, Industrial Hygiene, healthcare plans, regulatory medical requirements, and external healthcare resources. Ability to work in and contribute to a team environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

CCM, COHN, MSN, MPH or Master's in related field. Evaluation, assessment, solving, and negotiating skills. Minimum of 1 year experience performing CDL Medical Examinations for CDL license holders.
