The Organization: Amazon Physical Stores is building innovative technology solutions that change shopping in physical environments. Amazon Go (Just Walk Out) is a new kind of store with no lines and no checkout. You simply use the Amazon Go app or credit card to enter the store, take what you want and go. Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by our Just Walk Out Technology. Amazon Dash Cart a new smart shopping cart that makes a quick grocery trip even quicker by allowing you to skip the checkout line. Amazon One brings palm recognition as new mode of shopping bringing another level of ease to in-store shopper experience.

Key job responsibilities

The Role: This is a team within the Amazon Physical Stores third-party solutions group, which provides the services that enable enterprise customers customers to purchase Physical Store services, enable businesses to configure customized rate cards per product per customer per geography, managing invoicing and help customers understand and manage their infrastructure costs. This is a great opportunity for building ground up and drive seamless and scalable integration with various accounting and tax systems to ensure accurate and timely invoice is generated and financial transaction is recorded.

This opportunity is for working within a startup environment within the umbrella of Amazon - think of it being equivalent to the early days of Amazon Web Services, only this one is for Physical Store Products expansion to other third party retail venues. This is an opportunity to influence and expand the reach and growth of the state of art technologies within Physical Stores. A successful candidate will bring deep software expertise, have strong business intuition, and think broadly to identify visionary products the will enable business expansion.

The role requires you to be able to lead the software development life-cycle

Create and execute roadmaps and project plans

Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to senior leadership

Work closely with senior engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach

Build a high performance team while maintaining a high bar for quality

Foster culture of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics

Hire, coach, and mentor colleagues; build a strong cross-functional organization and care about developing people

Own all operational metrics and support

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
