Department Description: Would you like to contribute your own ideas on how to smartly deploy and manage large scale distributed Database-as-a-Service offerings for the public and private clouds? Oracle's Database development group designs and develops the Database-as-a-Service platform that drives Oracle's Database, Engineered Systems, Oracle Public & Private Clouds, Oracle PaaS and SaaS offerings. This team is a provider of public cloud database and infrastructure management software and helps companies manage platform resources to deliver service, quality and availability, as well as workloads in private and hybrid cloud environments.

The Database Cloud Platform team is responsible for designing, developing and delivering the Oracle Database product on Public Cloud Platforms. These range from initial provisioning of customer's database and compute environment to complete life-cycle management of the customer's database instance on the Oracle Public Cloud. The Database on Public Cloud product is growing rapidly and the product features are designed to manage customer environments at a massive scale. The same architecture is deployed and managed for private clouds for our customers. This is a global team with locations in US and Oracle's India Development Centre (IDC) Bangalore.

Brief Posting Description:

Work with a world class team to provide Oracle Database Cloud & Administration support for customer production systems in the Oracle Cloud, with the opportunity to work on the latest Oracle database releases & features as part of the cloud first strategy. Provide DBA operational support with a high degree of customer service, technical expertise, and timeliness. Provide accurate and creative solutions to customer problems to ensure customer success.

Qualifications and experience:

Must be a motivated, team-player with the ability to work cross functionally with a "can-do" and "do-it-right" attitude, a self-starter, and constantly thinking of ways to improve the work.

Leading contributor individually and as a team member. 8+ years of experience supporting relational databases as a DBA, with a focus in Oracle and related tools. Experience with an organization with a key 24 X 7 reliance on its databases is preferred. BS or equivalent desired.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

  • Must have 8+ years of extensive database management experience with strong sense of ownership, urgency and drive

  • Willing to work in a production mission critical environment, including weekends

  • Knowledge of best practices and DEVOPS methodologies in an always-up, always-available service

  • Experience with Public Cloud

  • Proficiency with Git and GitHub repositories

  • Good knowledge of Python or Perl

  • Proficiency with Jenkins, Declarative pipelines

  • Experience with Automating Testing and deployment pipelines using devops tools such as Jenkins, terraform

  • Experience with automation/configuration management using either Ansible, Chef or an equivalent is a strong plus

  • Understanding of Rest APIs

  • Experience with Oracle database 12c, 19c, RAC, ASM, Data Guard and Performance tuning

  • Experience with Enterprise Manager for monitoring and administering mission critical databases

  • Experience with database backup and recovery

  • Experience with database patching and upgrades

  • Experience in Oracle SQL/PLSQL

  • Strong troubleshooting skills to investigate errors and performance bottlenecks

  • Experience with Unix shell scripting

  • Experience administering databases on Exadata is a strong plus

  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to detecting and resolving issues.

  • Comfortable working with a distributed team located in multiple time zones

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume, test-driven, collaborative and iterative environment

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and documentation skills

Responsibilities

As part of the Autonomous Database Dedicated Cloud Operations team work includes below but may not be limited to the following:

• Alert and diagnostic monitoring

• Participate 24x7 on call support on a weekly rotating schedule, including weekends

• Work closely with Product Development teams and provide feedback to improve product quality

• Develop administration automation and monitoring scripts as needed

• Should have Public Cloud exposure

• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures/documentation

• Provide escalation support for database related issues

• Work closely with the development, quality assurance, and product management teams, to ensure the timely delivery of database cloud software releases and patches

• Share knowledge and mentor junior team members as needed

• Attend weekly team meetings and participate team building activitie

• Collaborate with internal engineering teams to bring about scalability, reliability, and cost of ownership improvements to existing infrastructure and architecture

• Drive, Define, and Implement monitoring services for data centers to incorporate key quality indicators (KQI) towards development and deployment SLAs

• Other duties, as assigned
