Job Description

As a Principal Engineer at Western Digital, specializing in Optimization and Transformation for IT Applications, you will play a critical role in ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of enterprise applications. Beyond maintenance, you will lead automation, monitoring, and dashboarding initiatives to optimize key processes like Software Asset Management, working closely with procurement, legal, and engineering teams.

This role requires strong expertise in automation frameworks, monitoring tools, and dashboarding platforms like Power BI. A data-driven mindset is essential to leverage GenAI solutions for business insights. You should also have hands-on experience in Linux, Windows, and Mac OS administration, networking, SQL databases, and security best practices, focusing on optimizing hosted applications.

You will collaborate with IT, procurement, and engineering teams to enhance system performance, automate repetitive tasks, manage licenses effectively, and drive data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance automation frameworks for system and application management using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting languages.

• Identify automation opportunities across IT processes, leveraging AI and related tools.

• Optimize Software Asset Management pipelines for seamless license tracking and cost efficiency.

• Experience with DevSecOps applications and CI/CD pipelines is required.

• Implement and manage monitoring solutions using Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or similar tools to ensure system reliability.

• Set up real-time performance dashboards to track application health, license usage, and infrastructure stability.

• Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks in web applications.

• Design and maintain interactive dashboards using Power BI or similar to provide actionable insights.

• Apply a data analyst mindset to interpret trends, predict system behaviors, and drive informed decision-making.

• Leverage GenAI solutions to enhance business intelligence and operational efficiency.

• Act as a technical leader, collaborating with IT, procurement, and engineering teams to align solutions with business objectives.

• Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

• Ensure security compliance, conduct risk assessments, and enforce cybersecurity best practices.

• Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and smooth project execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• 10+ years of experience in IT optimization, automation, and application management.

• Strong expertise in automation tools (PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, or similar).

• Hands-on experience with monitoring platforms (Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, etc.).

• Proficiency in Windows/Linux OS administration, networking, virtualization (VMware), and SQL databases.

• Experience with dashboarding and business intelligence tools (Power BI or equivalent).

• Proven ability to manage and support large-scale application environments, providing platform-as-a-service for a significant user base.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.

• Certifications such as SAFe, CSM, ITIL, or Six Sigma are advantageous.
