Job Description PT 15 hrs 8a-4p

Serve as the central patient advocate for uninsured and underinsured patients as well as those who need services in the community. Responsible for assessing patient's eligibility for no cost or low-cost insurance. Assists patients and families with Government sponsored program enrollment such as Medicaid. Collects payments from patients, and educates patients on financial responsibility related to, Self-Pay Rates, Co-payments, Deductibles and Co-insurance.

Job Responsibility

  1. Interviews patients to obtain necessary financial, demographic and insurance related information. Verifies government sponsorship. Obtains and documents additional insurance information, such as No Fault and Workers Compensation. Utilizes Epaces and payer websites to verify insurance.

  2. Contacts patient/family and conducts interviews for the purpose of assessing government sponsored program eligibility.

  3. Meets with and assists patient/family in completing Medicaid applications in order to ensure coverage for Hospital, Nursing Facility, Home Care services and community Medicaid. Gathers documentation and assists in the completion of the Financial Assistance Program (FAU) process.

  4. Contacts physicians, nurses, social workers, employers, banks, etc. to obtain appropriate medical, legal and financial information to complete Medicaid. Notifies appropriate hospital staff regarding Medicaid eligibility status and determination

  5. Calculates and provides patient price estimate, outlining patient liabilities including copayments, coinsurance, deductibles, and outstanding balances.

  6. Collects balances from patients and enters payment into collection system. Responsible to close batch in collection system at end of day.

  7. Educates patients on out of pocket responsibilities.

  8. Assist in scheduling patients for follow up appointments, special tests and consultations when applicable.

  9. Enters/updates data into various internal and external systems (patient registration system, financial management system, Medical Eligibility Program database, etc.).

  10. Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

1 High School Diploma or equivalent, required

2 Obtain Medicaid required certification within 30 days of Hire Date, required.

3 NYS Certified Application Counselor, preferred.

4 Demonstrated ability to operate data entry equipment, required.

5 Excellent writing, organizational, interviewing and advocacy skills.

6 Ability to evaluate, research and document financial histories of patients in relation to Medicaid regulations.

7 Ability to work well under pressure.

The salary range for this position is $25.87-$28.39/hour
