Job Description:

As a Database Analyst Senior at GDIT, you'll leverage your expertise in database management and analysis to support complex migration challenges. Your role will involve applying cutting-edge database technologies and techniques to migrate and optimize databases to cloud data warehouses, meeting the unique requirements of our clients. Your work will contribute to the Bureau of Fiscal Service's mission of migrating and optimizing a mission-critical payment database to another cloud data warehouse. In collaboration with teammates and stakeholders, you'll help set up a data warehouse, analyze, tune, and troubleshoot databases in the cloud data warehouse, ensuring data integrity and availability to support critical financial operations.

HOW A DATABASE ANALYST SENIOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Lead the setup, migration, analysis, optimization, and maintenance of mission-critical database in a cloud data warehouse environment, ensuring high performance, availability, and scalability.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data architects, developers, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements, identify migration challenges, performance bottlenecks, and develop robust cloud data warehouse solutions.

  • Leverage advanced database administration techniques, such as performance tuning, index management, and query optimization, to ensure data integrity, consistency, and availability in the cloud data warehouse.

  • Implement best practices for data governance, security, and compliance, ensuring that migrated data and cloud data warehouses adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Optimize and streamline database operations in the cloud data warehouse, leveraging automation tools and scripts to improve efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Technical Training, Certification(s) or Degree and 3+ years of experience or equivalent years of experience

  • US Citizenship is required

  • Demonstrated experience in cloud migrating databases/data warehouses.

  • Proficiency with AWS data services such as S3 (data lake), Redshift (data warehousing), Athena (querying data lake), Glue (ETL), and QuickSight (data visualization).

  • Proficiency with data warehousing concepts, including dimensional modeling, ETL processes, and query optimization.

  • Proficiency with cloud-based database services and their integration with cloud data warehouses.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • AWS or equivalent Cloud certification

  • Knowledge of database migration techniques to AWS, including schema translation, data extraction, and set up in AWS database services.

  • Knowledge of AWS data lake architecture patterns and best practices for designing and optimizing data lakes.

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau and integrating them with AWS data sources.

  • Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance best practices for databases in AWS, such as AWS Key Management Service (KMS), AWS PrivateLink, and AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM).

  • Familiarity with AWS database monitoring and performance analysis tools, such as Amazon CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and AWS Lambda functions for database optimization.

  • Familiarity with database automation and DevOps practices for cloud data warehouse deployments.

  • Familiarity with AWS backup and disaster recovery services, including AWS Backup, Amazon EBS snapshots, and AWS Database Migration Service (DMS).

  • Proficiency in scripting languages for cloud data warehouse administration tasks.

  • Familiarity with project management tools like JIRA.

The likely salary range for this position is $97,750 - $132,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
