The Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, is seeking applications for anAssistant Attorney General . As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Assistant Attorney General 2-6, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have a current, valid driver’s license;

  • Must be in good standing with the Louisiana Bar Association;

  • Three or more years of experience;

  • Excellent written, oral advocacy and interpersonal skill;

  • Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team;

  • Effective time management skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interest or background in consumer protection and privacy;

  • Experience litigating consumer protection and privacy claims and capable of managing complex, multistate, and multidistrict litigation;

  • Experience executing discovery and conducting depositions;

  • Technology proficiency, including knowledge of and comfort using Microsoft Office applications and case management and eDiscovery platforms;

  • Hearing and trial experience;

  • Privacy certification(s) from the IAPP.

Job Concepts

The duties of the Assistant Attorney General shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work in the Consumer Protection Section under the supervision of the Section Chief;

  • Represent the State of Louisiana in the enforcement of state and federal unfair trade practice and privacy laws to protect Louisiana consumers and legitimate businesses from unfair and deceptive trade practices;

  • Evaluate consumer complaints, conduct investigations, issue notices of violations, and bring enforcement actions related to unfair trade, privacy, consumer protection, false advertising, and price gouging;

  • Participate in rulemaking;

  • Develop legal strategies and perform investigations in partnership with counterparts in other State Attorneys General Offices and federal agencies;

  • Lead investigations and all aspects of civil litigation, including discovery, motions practices, and resolving cases through hearings, trial or negotiated settlements;

  • Conduct research, develop legal theories, draft discovery and pleadings, conduct depositions, and present at hearings;

  • Communicate with opposing counsel, co-counsel, support staff, witnesses, consumers, businesses, and public entities;

  • Analyze and track proposed legislation on consumer protection, unfair trade, and privacy topics;

  • Maintain knowledge of legal principles and practices relevant to consumer protection and data privacy;

  • Assist in public education and outreach;

  • Perform other tasks in furtherance of the Section’s responsibilities.
