Naval Facilities Engineering Command EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (BOILERS) in Bangor, Washington

Summary You will serve as a EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (BOILERS) in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC NORTHWEST. Responsibilities You will conduct on-site safety, maintenance and Code compliance evaluations of boilers, water heaters, and unfired pressure vessels (UPV) located at Navy and Marine Corp activities. You will examine all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, structural and pneumatic systems, components and parts directly connected with the operation of the equipment. You will conduct on-site investigations to determine the condition of equipment, cause of inefficient operation, failure, malfunction, or accident. You will advise plant or maintenance personnel in writing, and in advance of any site visit, of the tests and operations to be conducted, safety precautions to be observed, and of their degree of participation during the evaluation process. You will conduct entry briefings to Commanding Officers, Public Works Officers, and/or upper-level management personnel at activities served through Temporary Duty Assignments (TDA). Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Identifying and solving problems related to mechanical equipment systems, such as all types of boilers; 2) Ensuring that boilers, hot water heaters, and unfired pressure vessels provide continued safe, reliable, and efficient operation by directing the evaluation and certification process; 3) Forecasting project needs for training requirements; and 4) Conducting special inspections as a result of oral requests or written engineering service requests.
