The Data-processing units (DPU) team, within the Azure Hardware Systems & Infrastructure group, brings together state-of-the-art software and hardware expertise to create a highly programmable and high-performance chip with the capability to efficiently handle large data volumes. Thanks to its integrated design, this solution empowers teams to operate with increased agility and deliver significantly superior performance compared to CPU-based alternatives.

As a Senior Software Engineer in the DPU software dev team, you will be involved in the design, development, integration and white-box testing of the control and data plane software/features that runs on the DPU’s custom-built silicon in a variety of new platforms targeted at storage, compute, and networking use-cases. This is an opportunity to build and deliver the innovative products that will be deployed at planet scale by the MSFT Azure cloud DCs. You will be involved in the system level features’ design, development, and integration.

Responsibilities

• Design and development of various control and data plane embedded features encompassing end-to-end functioning of various customer use-cases.

• Write the technical specifications of various platform level features with appropriate audiences (QA, Dev, Customer-support, etc.) in mind.

• Be the champion of quality, find product defects before the testing teams do and participate in cross-functional debugs and troubleshooting sessions.

• Be the RAS(Reliability, Availability, Serviceability) champion in the development team, and be the catalyst of change in this direction.

• Play a great team player, by engaging, sharing, and learning within the platform software team, as well as the cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with design and coding in languages including, but not limited to, C and / or Python

• OR equivalent experience

• 4+ years of experience in design and development of embedded software in the domain of platform software development (networking, storage or server platforms).

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience of writing embedded software for systems involving ASICs, NICs and/or DPUs/IPUs.

• Understanding of and hands on experience with various management and control plane protocols( DMTF standards, BMC stack, networking – switching/routing), and server platform firmware.

• Well experienced in writing the low-level drivers( I2C/SMBus, IPMI, UART, I3C, ethernet).
