The eCommerce Services (eCS) org is looking for a Senior Manager, Data Engineering to help build our data engineering and analytics team to own our reporting, metrics creation, KPI definition and cross-functional mechanisms to fuel our success. We are part of building the world's best, most reliable, and most feature-rich eCommerce platform that provides customers the best experience possible. You will lead the central Data Engineering and Analytics team in the eCS org.

As a leader supporting data engineering and business intelligence across the eCS organization, you will partner with multiple verticals to drive clarity among a broad set of key stakeholders and partners. Your work will be foundational--in this role, you will work on developing a new analytical and reporting platform to support key initiatives. You will partner with business stakeholders to drive actionable findings and recommendations to drive key business outcomes for our business. The visibility that your work provides will enable us to improve Amazon customer experience.

In eCommerce Services (eCS), we build systems that span the full range of eCommerce functionality, from Privacy, Identity, Purchase Experience and Ordering to Shipping, Tax and Financial integration. eCommerce Services manages several aspects of the customer life cycle, starting from account creation and sign in, to placing items in the shopping cart, proceeding through checkout, order processing, managing order history and post-fulfillment actions such as refunds and tax invoices. eCS services determine sales tax and shipping charges, and we ensure the privacy of our customers. Our mission is to provide a commerce foundation that accelerates business innovation and delivers a secure, available, performant, and reliable shopping experience to Amazon’s customers.

We are looking for an experienced and technically skilled senior leader to lead the team that provides data engineering and analytics functionality for the entire eCommerce Services org. The ideal candidate will be an analytical, results-oriented, self-motivated, and customer-focused engineering leader who will play a key role in continuous improvement for the critical systems that enable our entire retail business. The role will also include surfacing key product metrics as well as building critical data pipelines and analytics tools to improve efficiency and quality of strategic business decisions. You will be the driver of new technology and ideas, and you will be the ultimate problem solver.

Key job responsibilities

• Hire, manage, and coach a team of Data Engineers, Business Intelligence Engineers and Business Analysts.

• Engage with leadership and diversified customer groups to understand the needs and recommend business intelligence solutions.

• Strong leadership, vision and passion to build and drive a data engineering and business intelligence team to create changes in business partnerships, analytics, and metrics/reporting.

• Drive the design, development and implementation of our analytics to provide stakeholders with structured access to data.

• Champion proper adoption of self-service analytic tools and reporting environments.

• Own the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards that monitor and to drive key business decisions.

• Mentor and Develop Talent: Assist in the career development of others, mentoring employees and teams on advanced technical issues and career growth.

• Raise the Quality Bar: Provide guidance and mentoring to ensure that right technology choices are being made. Exert technical influence over multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience.

• Define the long-term strategy: Be part of the management team that develops strategic plans and ensures tactical execution of these plans.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative area such as math, statistics, computer science, engineering or equivalent experience

• Experience in analytics, data engineering, market research or related field

• Experience managing and hiring a team of data engineers, business intelligence engineers, business analysts

• Proficient in SQL working with large-scale, complex datasets from multiple sources.

• Advanced skills in Excel as well as any data visualization tools like Amazon Quick Sight, Tableau, or similar BI tools.

• Experienced in ETL, data modeling and big data tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineering experience.

• People management experience, managing data engineers and business intelligence engineers.

• Experience in designing and delivering cross functional custom reporting solutions.

• Experience with Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) databases - Redshift (preferred)

• Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
