Johns Hopkins University Research Program Coordinator in Baltimore, Maryland

The Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Program Coordinator who will work with a team of investigators coordinated by Dr. Marilyn Albert, Director of the Division of Cognitive Neuroscience in the School of Medicine. The Research Program Coordinator assist with research involving human subjects, with and without cognitive impairments, and with specimens and images based on research in human subjects.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Research Projects

  • Participate in a longitudinal study of older persons, known as the BIOCARD study, which involves clinical and cognitive assessments, blood draws, the acquisition of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and positron emission tomography (PET) scans, and collection of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) via lumbar puncture (LPs).

  • Responsibilities in this study include: (1) conducting clinical and cognitive assessments, (2) completing all study forms, (3) accompanying participants to the location of the various study procedures (i.e., blood draws, MRI scans, PET scans, LPs), (4) processing and storing blood specimens, (5) assuring that subject honoraria and reimbursements are completed in a timely manner, and (6) entering data from the study visits in the BIOCARD tracking database.

  • Assist with the research activities related to another study known as the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI), which is a national multi-center project focused on the longitudinal clinical and cognitive evaluation of the participants and the collection of biomarkers (similar to those collected in the BIOCARD study (i.e., MRI scans, PET scans, blood draws, LPs).

  • The responsibilities for ADNI will be similar to those for the BIOCARD study, (1) conducting clinical and cognitive assessments, (2) accompanying participants to the location of the biomarker study procedures, (3) assuring all study forms are completed and accurately entered into the national ADNI database by the study staff, (4) assuring that all biospecimens are correctly processed and shipped to the relevant central laboratories and that all brain images are correctly uploaded to the coordinating center, (5) assuring that subject honoraria and reimbursements are completed in a timely manner, and assisting with the completion of regulatory documents.

Additional job responsibilities

  • Update procedure manuals based on the expansion or changes in study procedures

  • Assist with the preparation of grant applications, including submitting publications to NCBI, generating lists of publications that are in compliance with NCBI regulations, and preparing reference lists.

  • These responsibilities will involve travel between several Johns Hopkins medical campuses including the main East Baltimore medical center, and the Bayview Medical Center.

  • A flexible daily time schedule will sometimes be necessary, based on the schedule of the study participant visits and the available staffing.

*This individual must be able to work collaboratively with junior and senior faculty, nurses and physicians, imaging center staff, and other related study personnel.

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work well with a team of researchers and with a diverse participant population possessing a range of cognitive function.

  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Good computer skills (including use of EXCEL).

  • Ability to handle detailed quantitative information.

  • Ability to be accurate when coding data, reviewing forms for completeness and handling data entry.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $17.00 - $30.00 HRLY ($48,880 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
