Johns Hopkins University Research Data Analyst in Baltimore, Maryland

The Program in Implementation and Equity Research (PIER) within the Center for Public Health and Human Rights in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH) is looking for a highly motivated Research Data Analyst with a strong interest in HIV research and strong quantitative skills. They will be responsible for supporting new funding initiatives, quantitative and qualitative analysis of ongoing research activities, and dissemination (including preparation of slides to present to collaborators/stakeholders and participation or leadership of publications). Research projects will be focused on the team’s Southern Africa-based portfolio projects including an NIH-funded R01 focused on PrEP service delivery for young women, and an NIH-funded R21 investigating patterns of substance use among female sex workers living with HIV and an injectable PrEP grant in Malawi. The work focuses on using scientific tools to improve the implementation of HIV-related evidence-based interventions. The ideal candidate will have an interest in supporting development of methods and tools to advance HIV and implementation science to address the health and rights of key populations and will have an interest in leading analyses and publications as part of their career development trajectory.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Use software applications such as spreadsheets, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble and format study reports.

  • Develop and manage essential databases and processes including data cleaning and quality control.

  • Assist in the application of cutting edge statistical and epidemiological methods as appropriate for these studies.

  • Support data abstraction activities for ongoing systematic reviews.

  • First author publications are a potential or being coauthor on other publications

  • Assist with the preparation of reports and presentations for scientific meetings and stakeholder engagements.

  • Support grant applications.

  • Assist with manuscript preparation including publications that they may be involved in but not leading, including performing literature reviews, citation management, running analyses, coding data (including qualitative data), preparing figures, tables and on-line submission.

  • Potential for student supervision or support on analyses.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Three years related experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in related discipline (public health, epidemiology, statistics/biostatistics).

  • Proficiency in R and RStudio, STATA or SAS.

  • Familiarity with qualitative coding and software a plus.

  • Formal coursework in implementation science and experience in analyzing Implementation Science data, both qualitative and quantitative.

  • Statistical background and knowledge of statistical methods.

  • Good communication skills with the ability to communicate findings in meetings.

  • Prior collaborative research experience a plus.

  • Experience in database software and data management.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Experience/knowledge of implementation science frameworks, strategies, and approaches.

  • Experience in meta research and systematic reviews preferred.

  • Expertise designing and developing data cleaning routines, ensuring data quality procedures including standardization, transformation, and rationalization.

  • Experience working with HIV/AIDS implementation programs and/or program evaluation and data management.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, including timely responsiveness to communications in person and by e-mail.

  • Demonstrated self-management with the ability to work on multiple tasks with short and/or competing deadlines.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • Coursework and/or direct experience in implementation science.

  • Technical knowledge related to HIV preferred.

Classified Title: Research Data Analyst

Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/MC

Starting Salary Range: $47,500 - $83,300 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
