Avient Corporation Global Trade Compliance Leader in Avon Lake, Ohio

We are seeking an experienced Global Trade Compliance Leader to oversee and drive the international trade compliance strategy for all Avient business segments/units. The position will report to the VP, EHS and will focus on mitigating risk by ensuring compliance with relevant import and export regulations, managing the Denied Party/Sanction Screening process globally, driving trade compliance policies and practices, and collaborating cross-functionally (e.g., legal, finance, commercial, operations, sourcing, supply chain) to align trade compliance activities with business goals. Essential Functions * Lead and ensure alignment within the global team including objective setting, measurement, reporting, organizational development, and process improvement. o Expand centralization in all relevant regions. o Create strategic plans that include resource, consultant, and software support globally. * Provide expert guidance to businesses and leadership on trade regulatory, policy, and risk management aspects throughout the dynamic geo-political landscape; implement timely compliance measures. o Address Denied Party/Sanction Party screening issues; inform and escalate to leadership as needed. * Ensure global alignment for tariff classifications, export control classifications, and valuation. * Oversee Free Trade Agreement programs and activities. * Direct internal self-audits and external regulatory agency audits of business units and regions. o Monitor activities to ensure compliance with established import/export policies and procedures. o Lead investigations of potential trade compliance violations and manage corrective actions as needed. o Report out on government agency audits, fines, penalties, and risks. * Act as delegated authority for all relevant government registrations, certifications, import bonds, POA's, and licenses. o Direct corporate ITAR/DECCS and EAR/SNAP-R registration renewals; act as ITAR Empowered Official. o Ensure physical and digital recordkeeping control in accordance with relevant regulations. * Oversee activities of third-party customs agents/brokers, consultants, and software vendors to ensure consistent compliance standards are met across all regions. * Foster positive relationships with government agencies and external counsel. o Oversee all Voluntary self-disclosure activity. * Lead all MAD global activity related to import/export compliance. * Develop and implement education plan and subject matter training for global team and internal stakeholders. * Other duties as assigned Education and Experience * Bachelor's degree in international business, Law, Supply Chain, or a related field (Master's or Juris Doctorate preferred). * Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in global trade compliance, import/export operations, or a related regulatory field, including leadership experience. * Proficient at HTS classifications, export control classifications, country of origin determination, and Incoterms. * Strong working knowledge of international trade laws (e.g. N. America, EMEA, Asia, India, etc.), including U.S. export regulations (FTR, EAR, and ITAR), customs compliance, trade sanctions, and anti-boycott regulations. * Participation and successes with U.S. CBP or Canadian CBSA desk reviews, intense audits, focused assessments, etc. * Experience in managing global cross-functional teams and projects in a fast-paced environment. * Proven track record in designing and implementing compliance programs and managing complex trade compliance issues.
