Dr. Tavel Optical Group Optician in Training - Avon in Avon, Indiana

Dr. Tavel is seeking a skilled and customer-focused person to join our team. As an integral part of our practice, an Optician will assist patients in selecting and fitting eyewear, providing personalized recommendations based on their visual needs, lifestyle, and preferences.

If you are passionate about providing excellent service, you don’t need optical experience to start a career at Dr. Tavel. We will teach you everything you need to know! An Optician in Training will learn and develop the necessary skills and knowledge to become a certified optician.

Pay:

  • Opticians in Training start at $17.00 per hour base pay.

  • Receive a $0.50 raise as soon as 30 days after completing the Tavel Pre-Test Certification.

  • Receive another $0.50 raise and become eligible for monthly bonuses as soon as 60 days (approx. 30 days after first raise) after completing the Tavel Optician Certification.

  • Additional Bilingual Pay for:

  • Spanish Fluency – additional $0.50 per hour added to base

  • American Sign Language (ASL) – additional $0.50 per hour added to base

  • Burmese Fluency – additional $1.00 per hour added to base

    Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct thorough consultations with patients to understand their vision requirements, lifestyle preferences, and budget constraints

  • Provide guidance and assistance to patients in selecting frames that complement their facial features, style preferences, and prescription needs

  • Educate patients on proper eyewear care, lens cleaning techniques, and the benefits of different lens options

  • Process accurate orders for eyewear products, including lenses, frames, and accessories

  • Provide repair services for damaged eyewear and perform routing maintenance tasks to extend the lifespan of patients’ eyewear.

  • Schedule appointments, verify insurance eligibility, and authorizing benefits

  • Staying up to date with training to advance your skills and knowledge

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must be able to attend mandatory two-week paid training period without absences

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-focused approach

  • Ability to provide personalized assistance and recommendations to meet patients’ individual needs

  • Good sense of time management and ability to prioritize tasks

  • Proficient in using a computer and navigating multiple windows/screens for order processing and record-keeping

  • A positive attitude and a willingness to strive for excellence

  • Detail oriented and ability to problem-solve

  • Availability to work hours of operations including one evening per week and Saturdays
