Senior Packaging Engineer (Multiple Positions), Tesla, Inc., Austin, TX:

Drive technical execution of packaging projects across several Vehicle and Energy Product platforms. Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for Tesla Vehicle and Energy platforms. Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Introduction, and Operations partners to gather and develop packaging requirements. Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to drive projects to enable the most efficient delivery of parts possible without sacrificing part quality or manufacturability. Provide design direction and development plans of protective packaging containers, dunnage, and unique shipping racks - domestic and international. Monitor KPIs and work with Packaging Design Engineers to develop world-class packaging standards and continue to improve upon them. Drive expendable to returnable projects and participate in sustainability initiatives. Manage project budgets, risks, and change management. Assist in vendor selection and vendor management.

Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field, and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience.

Must have 5 years of experience in CAD and technical drawings, including datum structure, GDandT and tolerance stack up analysis.

Must have 5 years of experience with manufacturing processes including one or a combination of machining, welding, injection molding, and/or thermoforming.

Must have 5 years of experience working with materials, including one or a combination of aluminum, steel, composites, foam, and/or paperboard.

Must have 5 years of experience in packaging testing and validation.

Requires domestic travel up to 25% and international travel up to 10% for validating prototypes, visiting part suppliers, and other qualification-related activities.
