Whole Foods Market Principal Comms Channel Strategist in Austin, Texas

Job DescriptionThe Senior Communications Channels Strategist leads the strategic execution and evolution of Whole Foods Market’s owned Corporate Communications channels. This position works closely with the Communications team’s project manager and reports to the Executive Leader of Communications Channels.

This role is based in Austin TX, within the Whole Foods Market corporate offices. Embrace a hybrid work environment, spending 3 days in our downtown office and 2 days working from home/remote. Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees governance (including audience creation and nomenclature, author roles and access, content placement and visibility, etc.) of Whole Foods Market’s intranet, corporate newsroom, back-of-house digital screens, all-store huddles, and internal non-operations email.

  • Serves as primary channels consultant for projects and initiatives that necessitate companywide internal communication or are disseminated to external audiences via the WFM newsroom.

  • Advises and educates internal stakeholders on channels best practices for maximizing reach and visibility of communications.

  • Advocates for and leads implementation of data-forward channel enhancements.

  • Serves as the Communications team’s primary point of contact for Store Support and Operational Area lead (intranet) authors; conducts regular check-in meetings with this group of key users.

  • Oversees and/or conducts internal author training and support.

  • Reviews and tests channels-related process documentation to ensure accuracy, clarity and relevance; ensures documentation and trainings are current.

  • Supports posting and/or sending communications as needed.

  • Leads awareness campaigns related to WFM’s intranet, new and useful features, future-state capabilities and the benefits of engaging with its rich content.

  • Collaborates with Executive Leader of Comms Channels on audience segmentation and effectiveness measurement.

  • Evaluates new and emerging channels for efficacy in reaching internal audiences.

  • Ensures companywide communications follow Whole Foods Market’s internal voice and style guidelines. 

  • Collaborates with Executive Leader of Comms Channels and WFM Product team on quarterly intranet business reviews.

Skills: 

  • Audience/user-centric mindset – must be obsessed with delivering communications that center on the audience, with strong focus on the where, when and how of message encounters.

  • Strong aptitude for creative and strategic problem-solving and concise communication.    

  • Self-starter with ability to ideate independently and collaborate effectively.  

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional environment while managing multiple workstreams; ability to build consensus among stakeholders with varying priorities. 

  • Experience developing communications campaigns that target multiple audiences.

  • Intellectually curious; proactively identifies gaps and opportunities to improve processes and user experiences. 

  • Experience building and nurturing relationships with peers, stakeholders and leaders.  

  • Excellent written, verbal communications and presentation skills. 

  • Comfortable working in multiple CMS environments.

Preferred: 

Retail industry internal communications experience.
