The Field Operations team is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and small business services. The Field Services Center Technicians support GFiber’s Field Technicians with Wired and Wireless customer installation and network construction, expanding and maintaining Google Fiber network

Role Description

The Field Services Center Technician II supports the dispatch support of: installing and repair of GFiber services, repair and maintenance of Outside and Inside Plant, planned maintenance, and preventative maintenance. Your primary responsibilities will require an understanding of how to diagnose and correct all service impacting root causes from the central office, remote terminal or hut location to the customer premise equipments such as:

  • Impairments to/with all connections

  • Drop cabling

  • Network interface units, patch panels

  • Media cabinets

  • ONTs

  • Inside wiring (fiber, ethernet , including backup powering, UPS, etc.)

  • Media gateways

  • Modems

  • Routers

  • Switches

  • OSP Cabling

  • Active electronics (including CWDM and DWDM applications)

In this role, you'll:

  • Resolve complex issues by troubleshooting impacted residential and small business services.

  • Coordinates multiple repair and maintenance resources for Outside Plant (OSP) on concurrent incidents.

  • Coordinate install fulfillment dispatch including route optimization and handling calls from technicians.

  • Have knowledge of installation and test of Ethernet jacks, making cross connects in telecom spaces (MDF, IDF, HDF) working with twisted pair copper cabling and/or fiber optic cables, installing radio mounts, tuning microwave point-to-point radios and performing installation/construction duties, maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Navigate complex customer interactions with exceptional client service, professionalism, and thoroughness.

  • Be proficient with computers and will be expected to adhere to company entry policies, both time bound and in verbiage.

At a minimum we'd like you to have:

  • 3 years experience in Fiber to the Home (FTTH) / Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) /10 Gigabit Passive Optical Network (XGS) network construction and/or large scale fiber network deployments.

  • 3 years of experience managing relationships with a variety of contractors and vendors.

  • 3 years of experience in GIS or equivalent mapping systems.

  • Ability to work non-standard working hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and differing work rotations/shifts.

  • Experience using a computer in a professional setting.

  • Experience with field services dispatch in telecom or similar industry.

It's preferred if you have:

  • 3 years experience with field services dispatch in telecom or similar industry.

  • 3 years of experience in fiber splicing for both termination and midspan use cases, OTDR and Power Meter fiber optic testing.

  • 3 years of experience with fiber to the B2B/Enterprise level fiber network construction/operations.

  • Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network issues related to routers, switches and hubs.

  • Experience with rack and stack work, assembling server stanchions, telemetry closet work (MPOE, DMARC, etc.), and patch panels.

  • Ability to operate Google Workspace, Oracle Field Services Cloud (OFSC), and Salesforce applications.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $74,000 - $81,000 + bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
