Resideo ERC Certification Technician (Safety) in Aurora, Illinois

Position Summary:

As an ERC Certification Test Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting Resideo’s Safety product research testing, validation, and certification activities. You will work as a member of the ERC Global Certification Team to conduct specialized Smoke Box research and validation testing within our current test facility, as well as research testing at Intertek’s Labs. This role will involve hands-on product testing, data collection, and compliance validation to support regulatory certification and product development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Smoke and CO detection research testing in our test facility, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Support specialized Smoke Box research and validation testing, collecting and analyzing data to improve product performance and compliance.

  • Work at Intertek’s Fire Test Lab, as needed, to perform product testing and support certification projects.

  • Prepare and verify sample setups for compliance testing under UL and international standards.

  • Assist in executing tests and documenting results for certification and product development purposes.

  • Maintain and improve in-house test fixtures and test setups to align with regulatory certification requirements.

  • Ensure all test Environments comply with the ISO 17025 standard and relevant national/international compliance standards, as specified in established test methodologies and procedures.

  • Assist with internal audits, equipment calibration verification, and any other lab related activities required to maintain compliance and data acceptance.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to provide feedback on design changes needed to maintain regulatory compliance.

  • General lab maintenance duties as required to maintain the integrity of our internal verification and certification test facilities.

Must Have:

  • 2+ years of experience in Smoke and CO detection product testing or equivalent product testing experience.

  • Technically proficient in the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of electromechanical test measurement and data acquisition equipment used throughout the product test process.

  • Strong attention to detail with experience in data collection/analysis, test documentation, and reporting.

We Value:

  • Hands-on experience in R&D test lab environments, specifically in areas of fire/smoke research testing, correlation testing, and audible testing for Smoke and CO detectors.

  • Familiarity with any of the relevant UL, ULC, and EN standards for Smoke and CO detection products (e.g., UL 217, UL 268, UL 2034, UL 2075, ULC-S531, CSA 6.19-17, EN 14604), a major plus.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for test data analysis and reporting.

  • Knowledge of soldering and basic electronics assembly for setting up test fixtures.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and assist in adjusting for compliance testing.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to adhere to established processes, test methods, and safety protocols.

  • A team player with the ability to work independently when necessary.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to stand, bend, crouch, and climb ladders and steps to access specially mounted test devices / equipment.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.

  • Comfortable using various cleaning products, squeegees, sponges, and motorized pressure wash equipment.

  • Frequent exposure to repetitive and loud noises in a controlled lab environment.

  • Strict daily attention and adherence to safety protocols and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required due to generation of controlled fires and exposure to smoke and CO generating materials, as well as proper handling of measuring equipment and ionization smoke alarms containing sealed radioactive sources (AM-241).

  • Expected to work Monday through Friday, standard hours up to 40 hours per week.
