Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER, Position Description Number D1287000 and is part of the CO FMS 9, National Guard. The purpose of this position is to serve as a working leader of three or more Surface Maintenance Mechanics, WG-5801-10. Responsibilities Leader Duties: Assigns work orders to specific crewmembers and selects workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Assures that there is enough work to keep the work crew busy. Non-Supervisory Duties: Troubleshoots, performs maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles. Troubleshoots equipment and diagnoses the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks and/or uses test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, and computer diagnostic tools. Removes and disassembles engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. Independently performs repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems such as injectors, leaking wheel cylinders, corroded mufflers, fuel tanks, brake cylinders and worn brake shoes, voltage regulators, generators, injector pumps, and fuel pumps. Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. May maintain and repair electronics communication equipment by removing and replacing components and elements. Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records, and makes recommendations to the supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Military Grades: E-5 thru E-7 1. Specialized experience will be used to determine qualifications for the announced position. 2. An applicant's RESUME must provide, in detail, how they meet each specialized experience listed below. 3. It must be documented with "from (mm/yy)" and "to (mm/yy)" dates and description of the specialized experience. DO NOT copy each bullet listed below word for word and place into your resume; you must describe your personal experience as it pertains to each bullet. You will be immediately disqualified if you fail to include specialized experience in your resume. Must have at least 24 months of Specialized Experience in each of the following: 1. Experience diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. 2. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. 3. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. 4. Experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems. 5. Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. 6. Experience in performing administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. 7. Experience in providing guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series. Relocation and Recruitment Incentives Eligibility: Recruitment- Employee newly appointed to a position or following a break in federal service of at least 90 days. Relocation- Current federal employee who relocates to accept a position in a new geographic area. If you are eligible for a relocation incentive, the employee must have an appraisal from the prior with that's a 3 or higher. Proof of move will also be a requirement. Payments: Up to 25% of the annual rate of basic pay as of the beginning of the service period (includes locality pay/special rate supplement) multiplied by number of years (and fractions) covered by the service agreement. Subject to availability of funds and must be approved by TAG. Education Education cannot be substituted for Specialized Experience for this position. Per ARNG-HRH Policy Memorandum #10-39, mandatory Full Time Staff (FTS) training is required within a year of hire as a condition of employment in vacancy announcements for both Technician and Active Guard Reserve positions. Failure of new FTS personnel to complete NGB prescribed courses at PEC within the first year of employment may be cause for reassignment to other full time positions or termination of their employment. 9.
