The Role

A Cloud Security Engineer designs, implements, and maintains security measures to protect cloud-based systems, data, and applications. They are responsible for ensuring cloud environments are secure and compliant with industry standards and regulations. This role involves identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities, implementing security controls, and responding to security incidents.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Design and Implement Security Solutions: Develop and implement security controls, including firewalls, encryption, access controls, and intrusion detection systems, for cloud environments.

  • Assess and Mitigate Risks: Identify and assess security risks, vulnerabilities, and potential threats in cloud infrastructure and applications.

  • Monitor and Respond to Incidents: Implement and manage security monitoring and alerting systems to detect and respond to security incidents, including unauthorized access and data breaches.

  • Develop and Enforce Policies: Create and enforce cloud security policies, standards, and best practices to ensure compliance with industry regulations. Analyzing, designing, and developing programs, shell scripts, tests, and infrastructure automation capabilities.

  • Automate Security Operations: Utilize scripting, infrastructure as code (IaC), and other automation techniques to streamline security processes and improve efficiency.

  • Manage Access and Permissions: Implement and manage identity and access management (IAM) controls to ensure proper user access and permissions to cloud resources.

  • Stay Current with Industry Trends: Continuously learn about emerging threats, security best practices, and cloud security technologies.

  • Collaborate with Teams: Work with development, operations, and other teams to integrate security into the cloud lifecycle and ensure a strong security posture.

  • Conduct Security Audits and Assessments: Regularly perform security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with security standards.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • ​​​​​Strong understanding of cloud security principles and technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Knowledge of security standards and regulations (e.g., NIST, ISO).

  • Experience with security tools and technologies (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection systems, SIEM).

  • Proficiency in scripting and automation languages (e.g., Python, Bash).

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Cloud Security Engineer certifications, such as AWS Certified Security – Specialty or Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP), can be beneficial.

  • Experience in other cybersecurity domains, such as Identity and Access Management (IAM), endpoint security, or threat analysis, can be advantageous.

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

Location Based Pay Ranges:

$103,711 - $138,281 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.

$108,896 - $145,195 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.

$114,082 - $152,109 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
