We’re currently hiring for a Research Manager, Health Communications with an focus on physical activity research.

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Manager to manage a 3-year large-scale systematic literature review on physical activity for a Federal client. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the overall management and coordination of the project, including client interactions, study design, execution, and comprehensive reporting.

The successful candidate will possess strong management skills, with the ability to lead and mentor junior staff members across various research tasks. Additionally, the role requires a collaborative mindset, working seamlessly with multiple ICF teams, the client and scientific advisory board. A successful candidate will also be able to engage in other communication and social marketing research by managing, designing, and executing interviews, focus groups, surveys, environmental scans.

What you will do:

  • Manage the design and execution of multiple, concurrent theory-based systematic reviews for a Federal agency.

  • Manage up to three direct reports

  • Coordinate with Federal clients to plan and execute meetings, workplans, provide updates, and offer solutions to complete the work and ensure that work meets a high standard of quality within budgets and timelines.

  • Manage the communication and workplan of a large advisory board of scientists working on physical activity and federal guidelines.

  • Develop presentations for various stakeholders providing updates on the progress of the project.

  • Lead, design, and implement research projects on communication and social marketing, not limited to interviews/focus groups, environmental scans, surveys, web data analytics.

  • Lead reporting and dissemination of research efforts (e.g., via manuscripts, presentations, and technical reports).

  • Lead submissions of research packages to an ICF’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) a data protection team, as well as the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

  • Support ICF’s thought leadership (e.g., via ICF webinars, ICF media relations, professional association events).

What you will need:

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in public health, health sciences, psychology, sociology, kinesiology or related field.

  • 10+ years of experience conducting research and managing projects in the public health or medical science fields, including developing and maintaining study research plans, timelines, staffing plans, and budgets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated work experience or training in physical activity science.

Professional skills we are looking for:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present research findings to both academic and non-academic audiences. This includes experience in writing research reports, policy briefs, and making presentations at conferences and public health forums.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, community organizations, and other stakeholders. Experience in mentoring junior researchers is also valuable.

  • Experience with designing research and writing research sections of government proposals and/or grants.

  • Experience with translating complex research results into recommendations or strategic plans to inform the development and refinement of programs.

  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and collaborative approach.

  • Experience managing and providing day to day oversight of individuals or teams.

  • Experience developing and monitoring project budgets and schedules.

  • Experience pursuing new business or development of business proposals.

Travel Requirements

  • Minimal travel will be required for this position (up to 10%).

Location: The ideal candidate will be within a commutable distance to our offices in Rockville, MD or Atlanta, GA and able to work a hybrid schedule. However, we are open to considering fully remote candidates.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:

$92,986.00 - $158,076.00
