Communications Specialist

Job Summary

The Corporate Communications Specialist combines creativity and expertise to support our communication to a variety of key stakeholders. This role involves providing expert consultation, strategic planning and implementation of communication initiatives. The specialist will craft original content and compelling corporate narratives that shape Southern Company's identity internally and externally. We are looking for an inspiring leader, a self-starter and a storyteller who can convey the broader significance behind each message.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, create, edit, and distribute impactful print, digital, and video communications for diverse audiences. Examples include internal website posts, video scripts, printed reports, executive messages, presentations, and fact sheets.

  • Simplify complex energy industry concepts into engaging content that resonates with employees and stakeholders.

  • Manage content projects from inception to completion, ensuring they align with strategic objectives.

  • Provide strategic communication counsel to leaders and internal teams, emphasizing message importance with clear objectives and timelines.

  • Develop comprehensive content calendars for departmental and internal clients to ensure timely and effective message delivery.

  • Guide the selection of communication channels, timing, and tone to enhance content impact.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of four years of experience in one of the following areas: Corporate Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, or related fields.

  • Demonstrated creativity and adaptability in the dynamic communications landscape.

  • Proficiency in corporate communications, public/media relations, brand management, and marketing.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with a focus on conveying the broader narrative.

  • Ability to craft and edit content across multiple formats, including print publications, websites, videos, and more.

  • Collaborative team player with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective interpersonal, consulting, and collaboration skills.

  • Familiarity with AI tools and their application in enhancing communication strategies.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Teams; Adobe experience is a plus.

  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.

  • Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • The incumbent operates in a hybrid work environment, balancing time between the office and remote work

  • Travel may be required up to 10% of the time
