Belong. Connect. Thrive. Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital is seeking a cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) clinical pharmacy specialist to join our team. ESJH is a Level 1 Emergency Cardiac Care Center, performs over 1,200 heart surgeries per year, and includes an Advanced Heart Failure/LVAD program. Eligible candidates should have their PharmD, a PGY2 residency (cardiology or critical care) or equivalent experience (5-7 years of clinical experience) in critical care.

Description

The CVICU clinical pharmacy specialist will be responsible for covering patients in the Cardiovascular ICU, primarily prior to and after open heart surgery. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: direct patient care, order verification, protocol development, pharmacokinetic consults, multidisciplinary rounds, anticoagulation monitoring, and code blue response teams. The individual will round with the inpatient team, perform daily profile reviews and monitoring, and precept students as well as pharmacy residents. The clinician will act as a drug information resource, participate in quality improvement activities, develop and implement drug therapy protocols, and will have opportunities to collaborate on research projects. The clinician will be involved in educating PGY1 pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, nurses, and other healthcare providers.

Shift Time: Hours are 7am – 3:30pm Monday through Friday with an approximately 10 week weekend rotation requirement.

  • In addition to direct patient care activities, this position is responsible for ensuring appropriate medication therapy and clinical outcomes for the institution related to specialty area.Monitors drug therapy regimens and performs daily in-depth patient profile review to assess, monitor and recommend appropriate drug therapy as applicable.

  • Consistently evaluates, intervenes, and documents adverse drug reactions, medication variances and clinical interventions beyond institutional protocols.

  • Prevents and/or resolves drug-related problems to ensure safety, efficacy, and cost-efficiency by consulting with the ordering prescriber and appropriately documents.

  • Answers drug information questions with in-depth knowledge of research designs, methodologies, and biostatistics.

  • Oversees the work performed by pharmacy students, technicians, and pharmacists to ensure performance standards are maintained and work is in accordance with state, federal and organizational regulations.

  • Proactively reviews trends, recommends patient safety solutions in specialty, and processes orders accurately and efficiently.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.

  • ASHP- Accredited Post Graduate Year 1 and 2 Residency or Fellowship or equivalent experience in the specialty area.

  • Relevant Pharmacy Specialty Board certification is preferred.

  • Active Georgia Pharmacist license or eligibility for licensure with attempt to register for 60 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required within 1 year for all positions with Code Blue coverage responsibility.
