Job Description

Primary Purpose: Assist with daily operation of transportation department by scheduling and assigning drivers for field trips, and coordinate field trips. During route times, disburse cost statements, and answer phones.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certification High School diploma or GED (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or Regional Accrediting Agency) Clear and valid Texas commercial drivers license (B-CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements Safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meets and maintains liability coverage eligibility) Current bus driver certification from TEA Shall be subject to testing for use of alcohol or controlled substance that violate law or federal regulations Bilingual (preferred) Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.
Knowledge/Skills: Effective telephone and communication skills Ability to use personal computer Ability to use Google Suites, Smart Tag, Travel Tracker, and or other computer programs the department uses Ability to receive and give verbal instructions effectively Proficient map reading skills Familiarity with Del Valle ISD
Experience: One (1) year of school bus driver experience

Communication and Community Relations The Scheduler promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:
- Responsible for scheduling all Regular Education Routes/Trips and assist with Special Needs and McKinney Vento trips as needed.
- Responsible for assigning driver and bus for route/trip after consulting with dispatch, shop, and director/assistant director.
- Ability to use two-way radio.
- Ability to work cooperatively with directors, principals, coaches, teachers, and drivers.
- Fill out spreadsheets for information for state reports yearly.
- Answer incoming calls, take messages, and route them to appropriate staff.
- Answer incoming calls and handle questions, and requests that fall within level of responsibility.
- Drive school bus as needed.
- Responsible for backing up dispatcher and route coordinator when needed.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
Organization Management The Route Scheduler manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:
- Serve as substitute bus driver.
- Maintain pertinent documentation and prepare various reports as required by state, District, or department.

- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
