out our Opportunity:

The Asheville City Attorney's Office is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Legal Office Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and possess excellent communication skills. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic legal environment supporting the office’s attorneys and other staff.

What you'll be doing:

  • Manage case files, including organizing documents, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring timely filing of legal documents

  • Assist attorneys in preparing for trials, hearings, meetings, and real-estate related matters

  • Coordinate and schedule appointments, depositions, and meetings

  • Perform various administrative duties

  • Stay current with legal developments and changes in municipal law

About you:

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered :

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Paralegal Studies or a related field supplemented by five years experience as a paralegal, preferably in a governmental setting, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

  • Preference given to candidates with experience managing administrative projects and staff

  • Strong understanding of legal terminology, principles, and procedures

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Google’s Software (Docs, Slides, Drive, etc.).

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • High level of professionalism and discretion

  • Certification as a North Carolina Notary or willingness to obtain same

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.

ADA Compliance:

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
