POLITICO Weekend Audience Editor in Arlington, Virginia

Description

POLITICO is seeking an Audience Editor to work on live events, social posting and SEO/headline optimization. Our ideal candidate is a creative thinker, organized planner and able to maintain high editorial standards.

The ideal candidate will possess a knack for finding unique and captivating ways to tell a story. You should be enterprising and passionate about building community and figuring out how to connect with readers off-platform. You also need an ability to write with style while maintaining accuracy. The ability to thoughtfully innovate on POLITICO’s voice is a must.

The shift will be Wednesday– Friday, 1-9 pm ET and Saturday and Sunday 11-7pm ET. Shifts will change occasionally based on news demand.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage institutional social media accounts and help grow Politico’s voice and style

  • Ensure SEO best practices are implemented on stories writing SEO headlines and URLs

  • Give real-time feedback to and ideate with editors on Headlines

  • Collaborate with key departments on social strategy and rollout plans

  • Contribute to data analysis on social performance

What You’ll Need:

  • Impeccable news judgment and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and with little oversight

  • Ability to frame stories for different audiences

  • Conversational, clean writing and the ability to write with an institutional voice that’s thoughtful and sensitive. (You’ve been praised for your compelling headlines, alerts, social copy, etc.)

  • Multitasking and project management skills. (You are comfortable managing multiple time-sensitive tasks at once and adapt quickly to the constant flow of news.)

  • Undergraduate degree in journalism, marketing, communications preferred

  • 3-5 years newsroom or comparable experience

  • Familiarity with U.S. politics and policy coverage is strongly preferred

  • Experience with the following tools is a plus: Adobe Creative Suite, Google Trends, NewzDash, Chartbeat
