Description

POLITICO is looking for an experienced editor of impeccable judgment to play a leading role on our growing global standards and ethics team to ensure the integrity of our journalism across all platforms and deepen our bonds of trust with readers in North America.

This role comes with a mandate to uphold POLITICO's editorial values and commitment to authoritative, nonpartisan and tough-mindedly fair journalism; to provide an essential quality check on all the work we do; and to set guidelines but more importantly in real time help journalists resolve knotty ethical questions as they arise.

This editor will serve as a hands-on collaborator with other editors on pre-publication reporting and reviews of our most sensitive content as well as the countless issues that come up in the course of producing ambitious and innovative journalism.

This editor will take a lead role in writing and updating newsroom policies and stylebook entries to offer clear direction to the staff and work alongside others to assist on training and development programs for our journalists.

This position is based in our HQ (Arlington, VA) but this editor should be able to collaborate comfortably with teams across North America and Europe.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as a hands-on editor who can offer pre-publication guidance on stories

  • Address and resolve issues related to our journalism after it is published

  • Help research and write newsroom policies on ethics and professional behavior and stylebook entries

  • Assist in designing training and development programs for POLITICO journalists
