BluePearl Veterinary Technician - Oncology in Arden Hills, Minnesota

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Arden Hills, MN is looking for an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team!

Position: Veterinary Technician (CVT preferred but not required) with our Oncology Department.

Work Schedule: Full Time; Monday - Thursday 10hr shift

Pay Range APCAI/CVTIII: $22.15 - $41.75/hour

*This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

  • Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $3.50

  • Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $3.50

  • Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.00

As an Oncology Technician, you will:

  • Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratoryrateand effort.

  • Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.

  • Perform phlebotomy.

  • Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.

  • Calculate basic medical math.

  • Set upappropriate materialsfor chemotherapy administration.

  • Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.

  • Safely dispense,reconstituteand administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.

  • Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.

  • Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion.

  • Have the knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and what to do if it happens.

  • Admit Oncology patients and obtain thorough history including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects,intensityand duration.

  • Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as how to handle patient eliminations after chemotherapy, how to handle oral chemotherapy at home, chemotherapy and radiation side effects and oral medication administration.

  • Maintain solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations andis able toconverse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.

  • Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization. Quickly and competentlyfacilitatesincoming calls.

  • Have the knowledge of the tumor types.

  • Understand diagnostic work-up protocols (including oncology specific terminology for each tumor/cancer type per each hospital’s protocol.

  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment andassistwith patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.

  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines anddemonstratesproficiencyin designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.

  • Maintain hospital forday to dayfunction and operation (stocking, cleaning, etc.).
