The Provider Relations Advocate functions as a subject matter expert in Independent Physician Association (IPA) operations. This position strives to bring consistency and experience in the local market by analyzing, reviewing, forecasting, trending, and presenting information for operational and business planning. This position will organize, and assist assigned physician and physician groups and/or financial pools, as well as fellow account managers, in achieving short and long term operational/strategic business goals/ by developing, enhancing, and maintaining operational information and models.

The Provider Relations Advocate will develop and sustain a solid day-to-day relationship with the providers, and office staff to effectively implement business solutions developed by the Optum leadership team. The Provider Relations Manager is accountable for overall performance and profitability for their assigned provider groups and/or financial pools.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in end-to-end provider claims and help enhance call quality

  • Coach, provide feedback and guide others

  • Assist in efforts to enhance ease of use of physician portal and future services enhancements

  • Contribute to design and implementation of programs that build/nurture positive relationships between the health plan, providers and practice managers

  • Help implement training and development of external providers through education programs

  • Identify gaps in network composition and services to assist network contracting and development teams

In this role, you'll be part of a performance driven, fast paced organization that is serving multiple markets. You'll have frequent interactions with senior management and physicians as you communicate about ways to evolve ongoing processes and programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of health care/managed care experience

  • 3+ years of provider relations and/or provider network experience

  • 1+ years of experience with Medicare and Medicaid regulations

  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access

  • Intermediate level of proficiency in claims processing and issue resolution

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with physician contracting

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

California Residents Only : The salary range for this role is $70,200 to $137,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
